Mrs. McDaniel's Memo
January 29th
RESPECT and KINDNESS
Our class is having a really difficult time of worrying about themselves, being respectful, and using kind words. We are also finding it very difficult to follow directions the first time given. Many students want to be on their "own plan" instead of the classroom "group plan". There is a lot of information still to be taught in this spring semester, so please have a discussion with your child about doing the right thing when being asked.
Thank you in advance.
Valentine's Day
Your child will be bringing home a paper today about our class valentine boxes. Students need to create their valentine boxes/bags based on their specialty animal. Please let me know if you have any questions after you have read the directions.
* In order to save paper, please ignore the part in the letter about displaying the boxes at the specialty fair. I failed to erase that portion off of a letter used in the past. *
Country Kindness Concert
Your child should have an order form for the “It’s Cool to Be Kind” Stonegate t-shirt in his/her backpack on Friday 1/22. Please return the completed form with payment in an envelope to your teacher by January 29th. Your t-shirts will be delivered February 17th.

Literacy
Reading-
This week we worked on sensory details.
Over the next few weeks we will be doing some activities to review for the upcoming spring testing.
Writing- We have started our rough drafts on our animal stories that we will get published in a hardback book. We are writing a narrative nonfiction story, which means a made up story with facts sprinkled throughout. Ask your child what the plot for their story is.
Math
We began chapter 7, which covers more multiplication and division.
Students also need to continue working on their multiplication facts. Don't forget that we will be doing our multiplication fluency quizzes every Tuesday/Thursday. Once everyone completes the 12's we will have an ice cream party.
