Remaining PSSA Dates Information
Dear Mill Creek Parents and Families,
This note serves to provide an update to families about PSSA testing and scheduling at Mill Creek this year. As noted in district communication earlier this month, both the U.S. Department of Education and the Pennsylvania Department of Education are requiring all school districts to administer PSSA testing for the 2020-2021 school year. The testing window has been extended so that districts can maintain compliance with their Health and Safety Plans.
Remaining Mill Creek School Testing Schedule
- English Language Arts
3rd-6th grades - May 25-27
- Science
4th grade - June 3
Testing Platform
All students will test online through their school-issued laptop. They will be provided with a test “ticket” with a secure code for logging on to their test.
Testing of Virtual Academy Students
Testing is only available in-person and on-site, and each virtual student will be scheduled to take the test in his/her/their homeschool. We remain committed to adhering to the guidelines in our district’s Health and Safety Plan. In most cases, virtual students will test in the classroom of their virtual teacher.
Transportation
All students, including virtual students, have been assigned a bus route. Your children may take their bus to and from school on testing days. If you prefer to drive your student to and from school for testing and wish to pick them up in the middle of the day when they are finished, please let us know.
PSSA Materials
All 3rd - 6th grade students are encouraged to bring the following materials to school on testing days:
- Fully charged laptop
- Laptop Charger (labeled with your child's name)
- Independent reading book
- Mouse (if you prefer a detached mouse)
- Headphones (for students with audio access during testing)
Mill Creek Day - Coming Soon!
As we celebrate the closure of this unusual year… Mill Creek will be hold its last spirit day on Friday June 4th (Rain date: June 7th). The school will be divided into two teams for the day:
SILVER STARS & BURGUNDY BURSTS
Mill Creek Day will give students, teachers and staff the opportunity to show off their school spirit and participate in fun activities and games. Students will participate in outdoor, as well as, classroom activities. There will be a running score tally for the teams throughout the day. At the conclusion of the day, the final scores will be announced prior to dismissal.
The Virtual Academy will also be running "indoor"/classroom activities for Mill Creek Day, which will occur online - also on June 4. We are coordinating activities for the virtual families who, through our recent survey, communicated that their child will attend for their "outside hour" part of the day. Thank you for understanding, that, due to coordination of the event, we are not able to take any additional attendees who did not complete our attendance survey. Virtual families whose students are attending should drop their child(ren) off at the start of their hour and pick them up at the conclusion of their hour. "Outside hours" are as follows:
- Kindergarten
AM – 10:00-11:00 a.m.
PM – 1:00-2:00 p.m. - 1st Grade – 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
- 2nd Grade – 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- 3rd Grade – 12:00-1:00 p.m.
- 4th Grade – 1:00-2:00 p.m.
- 5th Grade – 10:00-11:00 a.m.
- 6th Grade - 9:00-10:00 a.m.
Dropoff/pickup will occur at the normal school dropoff/pickup location (car parking side of the main parking area). Mill Creek adults will be present to supervise dropoff/pickup.
Current District COVID protocols will be enforced. NO VISITORS will be permitted to attend.

Principal's Post - A Weekly Note From Mr. Ortman
We have certainly faced a number of challenges this year, and our loss of air conditioning is yet another! Thank you to our students and staff for working through the warmer building conditions. It is definitely on the warm side here at Mill Creek these days, but we haven't gotten anywhere near oppressive (keeping my fingers crossed that trend continues). I have to say, some of that is due to the many Mill Creek families who have temporarily lent us fans for our classrooms. We have had some afternoons where it looked like a "fan parade" around here as they came streaming into our building!
Additionally, students and staff have done a great job with the newly relaxed masking guidelines, which have been especially helpful in our "toasty" building. Students are doing a great job of respecting one another's comfort level with the new guidelines and of managing their mask removal, as needed, appropriately.
Thinking cool thoughts while enjoying the beautifully warm days we have been experiencing...
Wishing everyone a great weekend!

From the Desk of Mr. Murtha
Mill Creek students continue to amaze me! I have to give particular kudos to our 3rd-6th grade PSSA takers for their tenacity and resilience this past Wednesday during our double math session. It was a LONG day! Our students, however, always manage to make the best of it, and our long PSSA math day was no exception. They kept their focus and positive attitude throughout. Good news is that all remaining PSSA days involve single test sessions, which will still require some morning endurance but will not be an all day affair.
Thank you for your tremendously hard work, Mill Creek 3rd-6th graders. We are and continue to be VERY proud you!
Have a wonderful weekend, Mill Creek!
