School Newsletter Term 1, Week 7
Friday 17th March 2023
Kia ora West End Whānau,
Thank you for another great week of learning. We are very excited about our upcoming Three Way Conferences next week. Thank you to all of those parents and caregivers who have booked appointments with teachers. Please remember school will close early (12.30pm) on Wednesday 22/3/23. This is a valuable opportunity to find out more about how your child is progressing and achieving so far this year. Please see details later in this newsletter to find out how to book in for a Three Way Conference with your child if you have not already done so.
Thank you again for your support of teachers with our NZEI Strike Action on Thursday. Although we would much rather be at school we appreciate all of the positive comments and support that have been offered by our West End School Whānau.
Swimming lessons continue to be a firm favourite for our tamariki. We are very proud to be able to offer professional swimming lessons through Hilton Brown Swimming at West End School with no cost to our whānau. Swimming is an important skill for our children to develop as they grow up around our beautiful rivers, lakes and oceans.
Our children are now well into their learning programmes and we are savouring every moment of the term. Although it feels like the term is moving by very quickly we have a lot of powerful learning opportunities planned for the remainder of the term. This powerful learning includes the trips to Te Rangimarie Marae with Wiremu and Trieste Te Aweawe. This morning Room 10 and Room 7 were the first group to head out to the marae this year. Our tamariki were fantastic on the marae with some of our Te Wao Nui O Tane children leading Kaikaranga. The children have experienced a wonderful day of learning. All children will have this experience over the next few weeks.
To all, have a safe and happy weekend.
Ngā mihi nui,

Rūma Toru and the study of Kupe
Rūma Toru have been learning about Kupe and the Giant Wheke in their Literacy and Inquiry time. Students have enjoyed using the values of Whakamana (resilience) and Mana Aotūroa (creativity) to research and investigate Kupe's Journey to Aoteroa and the places he travelled while he was in New Zealand. This has been a part of Te Wai Nui O Tane's Inquiry on Tuaranagawaewae, learning about the places we stand.
