Everything in the Middle School that matters

Volume 3

PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Happy December

We have a full calendar of events for the month of December. The next 15 days of school will be very busy. We have seen many parents come in to watch some of the middle school winter sports, activities and competitions. Holiday music concerts are in full swing, and we have several groups on field trips.

Mental Health Support during the Holidays

The holiday season can be a busy and festive time for many. However, for some, it can be a time of struggle and emotional stress. Please know there is support available for those who need it. Check out the resources available through the Middle School Student Center web page.

Midterm updates available December 11

We have worked very hard to get your child’s updated progress report and report card to you. On Monday, December 11 teachers will have their second quarter grade books updated. You can check child’s midterm progress on Parent Portal on that date. If you would like a hard copy sent home through the mail, please contact the student center 763-272-2111.

Fall Conferences

Our record shows another excellent turnout for fall student-led conferences. We had a 99.4% turn out. That is a tribute to you as parents and your commitment to being part of your child’s education. If you missed your child's scheduled conference, please contact your child ’s advisor to schedule another time to meet.

A big thank you goes out to all those who brought in wonderful soups, desserts, bread, etc. for us on our 1st conference night. It was very much appreciated.

Student Center Resources

You may have noticed a new list of contact numbers on our Middle School web page. Given the importance of an immediate response, we have listed these resources for families, students, and staff who may need assistance in times of crisis. Mental health concerns can affect all families, and it can be overwhelming to know how to help someone when a crisis occurs. We do notice an increase in mental health issues this time of year, so please utilize the many excellent resources we have available in our community when needed. You are also welcome to contact any of us in the MMS Student Center if you are looking for specific resources or support here at school. Please know there is support available for those who need it. Check out the resources available through the Middle School Student Center web page.

We Scare Hunger

Thank you to all students who assisted our MMS and MHS Interact students in collecting donations this Halloween. Over 1500 pounds of food were brought to the Monticello Food Shelf with the help of many Rotary volunteers. MMS students also donated 37 pounds of candy with the Allina Health Candy Buy Back Program. Altogether 3,789 pounds were collected between 19 area schools! Blue Star Mom's will send the candy to military personnel, plus each local food shelf in the region received a $500 check which is the "buy back" part of the collection.

Interact Club Update:

23 Interact students attended the Jostens Renaissance Tour on November 9th at Edina High School. The focus was on improving school culture and making positive connections within our community. Ask your middle schooler about "Fist Bump Friday!", An idea from our Interact club to start Fridays with lots of smiles. Interact club is promoting and helping with our upcoming Activity Night to fund the community service projects and will have other future volunteer opportunities. A big thanks to our Monticello Rotary Club for the bus funds for our Renaissance Tour!
