Battle of Antietam
General Lee being with the Confederates split his army into 4 parts to try and confuse McCellan and the Union. General Lee was trying to invade the North, but McCellan kept catching up with Lee everywhere he went. Antietam was the deadliest single day fight in the Civil War, about 6,000 died and 17,000 more with wounds.
Battle of Gettysburg
General Lee was looking for supplies, he designed an attack to "create a panic and virtually destroy the Union army". The Confederate troops put themselves directly in the line of fire "Pickett's Charge". General Mede was with the Union, his strategy was to stand his ground. Gettysburg was the deadliest battle on the Civil War, the Union lost 23,000 men and the Confederates lost 25,000 men. President Lincoln also gave a Gettysburg Address, recalling principals of human equality, this speech will then bring true equality to all citizens.
Battle of Vicksburg
July 4, Lee retreated from Gettysburg. Vicksburg and Mississippi fell under the control of the Union troops lead by Ulysses S. Grant. Grant and his army surrounded the 30,000 Confederate troops preventing food and supplies. The Anaconda Plan (for the Union) was to cut off all trade routes from the outside world. The Union then split the South into 2, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Texas because they got the Mississippi river.
