Important Information:

  • "Let's Pretend Hospital" field trip permission slips that were sent home should be signed and returned to school ASAP. I will email out an electronic copy that you can print and return if needed. The cost for this field trip is $7.00 and should be sent to school labeled and sealed in an envelope by this Friday, February 19, 2016. Only five (5) chaperones are allowed per class. Therefore, I will create a sign-up genius and the first five who volunteer will be the ones allowed to go with us. Please note, that you are responsible for your transportation to and from the field trip.
  • Thank you so much for helping to make our celebration of Valentine's Day such a success and thanks for all of the goodies that were sent to me. I am always overwhelmed by your appreciation and support of me. I am very grateful.
  • Something you can help with at home is helping out learners to practice and memorize adding doubles (e.g. 2+2=, 3+3=........25+25=, 50+50=, 100+100=......) This knowledge will help tremendously with adding larger numbers.

Ocean Progress

As you may know, Community One is creating an aquarium in the front lobby of the school. Our learners have selected three animals to learn about and create for the aquarium. They have chosen to do a sea turtle, an anemone, and a frog fish. Each learner has signed up for the animal that they want to learn about and help to create and we are working on those projects now. We hope to finish them by this week and have them placed in the aquarium over the weekend. Then we will move on to the "Midnight Zone" of the Ocean!

This Week's Focus Skills

English/Language Arts-We will complete a fluency progress monitoring check for each learner in the next two weeks and each learner will complete their narratives this week.

Math-Learners will be assessed within the next two weeks on the skill of greater than and less than and will work on geometry skills of one-half and one-fourth. We will also begin using a bar graph to collect and analyze data this week.

Science-Learners will be working together to learn about the habitats and characteristics of ocean animals.

Social Studies-Learners will learn about the significance of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln and we will read "Sweet Clara and the Freedom Quilt" in celebration of African American History and our learners will create a class quilt to illustrate the Path to Peace, Love and Friendship.
