The Manning Remote Learning Plan
March 13, 2020
Online Learning "Bell Schedule"
Dear Families,
As promised, this newsletter outlines our plan for online learning next week.
Above this introduction is our "Bell Schedule" for online learning. Here is what you should know about that schedule:
- Monday, March 16 is a teacher work day. Students are not expected to engage in remote learning that day.
- At 8:15 each morning that school is in session, teachers with subjects scheduled that day will post their daily learning to either Google Classroom or Schoology.
- Students should submit the assignment for the day by the end of the "period."
- Students are welcome to submit assignments early. They can work at their own pace. As long as they submit before the end of the "period" for each class, they will be marked "present."
- Students should submit their assignments, even if they are incomplete, before the period is over.
- During their "class periods," teachers will be available to students virtually to answer questions and provide support. Each teacher will share each morning what the virtual support will look like.
- ALL teachers are available to students during "All Teachers Office Hours." Students can reach out to them to set up an appointment to meet with them at that time. All teachers will post how to contact them for additional support during these office hours on their Google Classroom or Schoology.
- There are links to all teacher's online platforms as well as their contact information here: https://manningschool.jeffcopublicschools.org/academics/departments.
- If your student will be "absent" from their online learning due to illness, travel, an appointment, etc. please call their absence into the attendance line, which will continue to be monitored.
- If you are having trouble with any online platforms or if you do not have reliable access to the internet, please contact our Digital Teacher Librarian at Karen.Edoff@jeffco.k12.co.us.
- If you are experiencing connectivity issues, let me or your teachers know, and we will be flexible with deadlines.
- Arts electives are: Band, Orchestra, Choir, Images, Musical Theatre, Guitar, Music Media, Art, Art II, Jewelry, Photography, Set Design
- Academic electives are: STEM, Word Wonder, Digital Design, Designed Thinking, Creative Writing, Novel Writing, Entrepreneurship, Leadership, Spanish I & II, French I & II, Debate, Big History, Math Seminar, Strategic Reading, PE, Computers and TA.
TAs will receive a Google Form via email from Mrs. Heesacker to complete on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Access to counselors:
- Counselors are available to support your students academically and social-emotionally by appointment from 8:30-3:30 Monday through Friday. You or your student should email them directly to schedule a time to virtually meet. Their contact information is: Kelsey.Gaines@jeffco.k12.co.us (Counselor, last names A-K); Guy.Gordon@jeffco.k12.co.us (Counselor, last names L-Z); JJ.Beattie@jeffco.k12.co.us (Social Emotional Learning Specialist).
- If your student is experiencing a mental health crisis and needs to speak to someone immediately, please call one of the following numbers: Colorado Crisis Services- 844-493-8255; National Suicide Hotline- 1-800-273-8255; Jefferson Center for Mental Health- 303-425-0300 or 1-800-432-5049”
Additional information:
- We understand that this will be a new way for our students to learn. We also understand that many of you rightfully have concerns about them being on screens all day. The assignments teachers are creating will be manageable for students to complete well within the window of time they have for each subject. If your student is struggling to complete assignments on time, please reach out to me at Jeena.Templeton@jeffco.k12.co.us or to their teachers directly.
- All assignment accommodations outlined in 504s and IEPs will continue to be honored in our remote learning environment.
- If Jeffco decides to close schools after spring break, we will continue remote learning Monday through Friday, with Monday following the same bell schedule as Wednesday. Please remember that all communications regarding school building closures will come from Jeffco Public Schools directly.
- All communications regarding Manning's Remote Learning plans will come from me (Jeena) or Melaine Heesacker, our registrar.
- The office will be open from 8:00AM-Noon on Monday, March 16 if you need to pick up materials or medications.
What you can do to help us support your students in engaging in this new way of learning:
- Remind them that we are not expecting perfection and that they will get better and better at learning this way as they practice.
- Help them find a consistent, quiet place to study.
- Help them develop routines and schedules for their learning. We have set them up for that some, but they might need your additional support to stay on schedule and on task.
- Celebrate their successes with them!
- Remind them to communicate and advocate for themselves with their teachers if they have questions, are feeling overwhelmed, need additional support, etc.
Thank you for your grace, flexibility and patience with us as we do the best we can to continue learning through this complex and quickly changing set of circumstances. I feel lucky to serve our incredible students and families, and I am privileged to learn with a staff who are professional, committed, creative and who always put kids at the center of our work.
Thanks, as always, for sharing your kids with us. It is our honor to serve them.

What we can do to help prevent infection:
- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water.
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when coughing and sneezing, throw the tissue away and then wash your hands.
- Avoid touching your face including your eyes, nose and mouth.
- Disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, like door knobs and your phone.
- Avoid being around anyone with cold- or flu-like symptoms.
- If you are sick, stay home and away from public places.
- CDC does not recommend that people who are well wear a face mask to protect themselves from respiratory diseases. The masks are used to keep people who are sick from spreading it to others.
