Willow Dale's Monthly Newsletter - Welcome Back 2017-2018
From the Principal
Dear Willow Dale Elementary School Families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! I hope everyone had a relaxing and fun summer vacation! I am honored to join the Willow Dale community as your principal. With new beginnings come many possibilities. This year we will welcome 109 Full-day Kindergarten students to Willow Dale. We look forward to officially meeting the newest students of our family on Thursday.
Student in grades first through fifth grade had a great first day today! From arrival to dismissal, the students and staff did an amazing job! Part of our exciting day included introducing all students to our new school mascot, Paws, the puma! We look forward to seeing Paws throughout the school year in school and at many school events.
My time of transition has been nothing short of extraordinary! I quickly came to understand how very special Willow Dale Elementary School is. Your warm welcome and kind words have been touching. It is important to me that our work together combines a respectful and supportive partnership. I encourage you to communicate with me by email or phone any questions or concerns you may have. I can be reached at burkmi@centennialsd.org or 215.441.6093.
Here is looking forward to a promising school year! Thank you for being our partner in education!
Sincerely,
Michelle Burkholder

Health Room Update
Our school nurse, Mrs. White, and our staff nurse, Ms. Oliver, are always available to discuss any questions you may have regarding our students’ health and wellness. If your child is in need of medicine, over-the-counter or prescribed, it can only be given to the student by the school nurse. The medicine must be in its original packaging and should be delivered to the health suite at the beginning of the school day by a grown-up. Should you have any specific questions or needs as we begin the 2016-2017 school year, please do not hesitate in calling their office. You can dial 215.441.6093, and follow the prompt to reach the nurse’s office.

Willow Dale Elementary School's VISION
5th Annual PUMA 5K
Willow Dale is proud to continue a tradition of a Wellness Committee. Ms. Jenkins, physical education teacher, will serve as the committee’s chairperson. Together, the committee will continue its focus on wellness this year by incorporating a series of fun activities and healthy opportunities for students, faculty and staff, and the community. A healthy school is a happy school, and we are proud to work toward the goals of health and happiness. Stay tuned for further information regarding our FIFTH ANNUAL Puma Pride 5K, scheduled for Saturday, November 4th. It will definitely be an exciting and healthy day for all! Attendance is important!
While coming to school each and every day is important, it is equally as important to monitor our children’s health. If a child is sick, please keep him/her home. Our teachers will work with students who have fallen ill to make sure they do not fall behind in the classroom. When a child is absent, you must send in a written excuse note. This note must be given to the homeroom teacher within three days of return from the absence. Students who do not turn in notes within this period of time, per policy, will receive an unexcused absence on his/her record. Let’s work together to ensure our students are healthy and safe, and accountable.

Kudos to our Custodial Team
Many thanks to our fantastic custodial and grounds crew for their tireless efforts throughout the summer months to prepare our beautiful building in preparation for the return of our nearly 900 boys and girls! Mr. Joe (building supervisor) and his crew have done a wonderful job of waxing floors, dusting nooks and crannies, and, overall, providing a clean learning environment of which we can all be so very proud. Thank you!
