Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Happy May! We’re coming down the home stretch. A few more weeks to go and your students will be staying up late and sleeping in all morning during the summer! As you know, we are beginning our state testing this month. Please remember to support your student getting enough sleep, a healthy breakfast, and daily encouragement to persist and perform their best throughout the testing period.

8th grade parents, a reminder, promotion ceremony takes place on June 13th at Oak Grove High School football field, 2:30 pm. Class that day ends at 10:30 am for all Bernal students, so you’ll have plenty of time for you and your student to get ready for the ceremony. Please do not hold your child out of school that day to prepare for the ceremony.

Next week is teacher appreciation week. If you feel inclined, don’t forget to reach out to your student’s teachers and let them know how much you appreciate them for all of the ways they have supported your student this school year!

That’s it for now. As always, take care of yourselves and each other!

Attention 8th Grade Parents!

End of the year expectation letter for 8th grade parents/students

Hello, 8th-Grade Parents:

On Friday, March 22nd I sent out the end-of-the-year expectation letter to all 8th-grade students. In anticipation of our upcoming 8th-grade privileges and promotion ceremony, this letter is to inform parents and students of the school expectations regarding participation in the end-of-the-year activities. 8th-grade promotion is based upon academic requirements and positive student behavior. Please review the letter below with your student.

Testing @ Bernal April 29th - May 22nd

It's State Testing Time. Here are Some Tips to Help Your Prepare for the Test:

Before the Test Tips

1. Get a good night’s sleep and eat a high protein breakfast. Drink plenty of water.

2. Practice guided imagery, visualizations of succeeding on the test, mentally “going where the information is stored in your brain”, or breathing techniques.

3. Don’t study right before the test. Concentrate on being calm and mentally accessing the information you have already studied.

4. Eliminate negative thoughts or self-talk by replacing them with a positive affirmation, like “I am prepared for the test and I will do well” or “I've worked hard – I can do this.”

5. Ask your teacher if you can use a blank piece of scratch paper during the test (be sure to ask or it may look like you are cheating). Use the paper for “brain dumping” or “mind mapping” during the exam.

6. Make a decision to ignore students who finish the test before you. Research shows that students who finish early usually don’t score as well as those who take more time.
