Belmont Elementary: A PAWSitive Place to Learn!

February 5, 2016

PTO Valentine's Day Parties celebrate friendliness!

Classroom Valentine Parties are scheduled as follows:

February 8th, 10:30 Miss Jill's MW a.m. Class

February 9th, 10:30 Early Childhood a.m. Classes

February 9th, 2:30 Early Childhood p.m. Classes

February 9th, 3:00 Kindergarten - 5th Grade Classes

Thank you to all of our parent volunteers for your generosity of time, talents and treats to make these celebrations happen!

Thank you for remembering that the parties are intended for Belmont Early Childhood and Elementary students of attendance only. Parent (or approved high school) volunteers are welcome, however, coordination through PTO is appreciated so that we don't overload any of the classrooms. We do not have babysitting services during parties, so please make other arrangements for siblings if you intend to attend.

Conferences are Scheduled!

We LOVE talking about your child's learning! Our goal is 100% participation.

Conferences begin on Wednesday during the school day (NO SCHOOL FOR EC & KDG) for Early Childhood and Kindergarten. All grade levels are scheduled for Wednesday evening from 4:45 - 8:15 p.m. and all day on Thursday (NO SCHOOL FOR ALL GRADES) from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Thank you to our PTO for organizing food for our team during conferences. The BE staff will be enjoying a grab and go dinner on Wednesday from 4:15-4:45 and a full-spread brunch (my mom would call it lupper) on Thursday from 2:00-3:00. We very much appreciate your generosity and good eats!

Conference confirmation notes came home with your child earlier this week. If you didn't get one, please contact the office to get on the schedule. Questions about conference times may be directed to Shelly McCann at or by calling the office at 913-667-1810.

is your heart healthy?

We certainly hope so! Our Bulldogs have been learning all about the importance of heart and body healthiness in P. E. with Mrs. Fay. On February 8th & 9th, all 1st - 5th graders will be participating in a Jump Rope for Heart event during their regularly scheduled P.E. time.

In conjunction with this great heart-healthy activity, our students have the opportunity to also participate in a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. This is not a requirement, and there will be no prizes involved. We want our bulldogs to experience doing something for the good of the cause rather than for the size of the prize. All monies raised will benefit the American Heart Association through Jump Rope for Heart. Bulldogs are encouraged to bring a little loose change or collect donations- whatever fits your family's comfort level. All bulldogs will be having a blast building good heart strength by jumping on the 8th & 9th, regardless of their contribution. When we all add a little, the result can BE impressively powerful for those who need our support. Thanks for sharing your heart and helping to shape others!

Wanted: Gently Used Books

Belmont PAWS Leadership Team invites you to clean out your bookshelves and drop off your gently used books at Belmont, February 1st - 11th. Hooked on Books is collecting books for children in the Kansas City area. The books will be given to children to promote literacy and to provide them with a book that they can take home and keep as their own.

Here are the details:

  • Please choose new or gently used books.
  • Book content should be suitable for children- infants through eighth grade.

For questions about the Hooked on Books Program, call the Hooked on Books Hotline at: (913) 588-0295. For questions about our collection at Belmont, call Mrs. Wooten at (913) 667-1810 or email

looking for 2016-2017 incoming kinderdogs!

Kindergarten Round-Up is scheduled at Belmont on Thursday, February 18th from 6:30-7:30 p.m. This is a parent-only event full of paperwork, answers to your questions, and more paperwork! We are so looking forward to meeting our new families and welcoming younger siblings of many families we already know.

Our most important information of the night is to simply find out who is coming to kindergarten next year so that we can be ready for each young learner! We'll ask you to fill out an enrollment form, ask you to begin thinking about whether a half-day or full-day program best meets your child's needs, and drop off copies (or we are happy to make copies for you) of official birth certificates, immunization records and proof of residency (current utility bill is best) to get your child's elementary journey underway.

If your child is eligible for kindergarten (age 5 on or before August 31, 2016) then Round-Up is for you! Please, feel free to pass this information on to any friends or neighbors in our Belmont neighborhoods who have a kindergarten eligible youngster!
