What was the change?
People began to leave the church and started caring about themselves. There was also the spreading of art, learning, and architecture. People began to lose faith in the church and started to lose their faith in god. Also, because of the crusades there was the rise of trade during the Renaissance and that gave people options to leave the manor and move to cities to serve as merchants or skilled artisans.
Who were the people associated with the change?
Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519)
Was a ''Renaissance Man'' and was also known for being a painter, inventor, sculptor, and a scientist. He is famous for his painting the Mona Lisa (which is shown above) and only 17 of his paintings have survived till this day.
Michelangelo Buonarroti (1475-1564)
Was a ''Renaissance Man'' and was well known for portraying the human body in paintings and sculpture. Two of his works are the Stature of David (which is shown above) and Sistine Chapel.
Medici family
Florence came under the rule of the most powerful family which was the Medici family. They had a huge influenced art and culture there during the time they ruled over Florence. They were wealthy bankers who used their wealth to turn Florence into Italy's artistic city.
How did the change impact society at the time?
A well educated man who can write poetry, and play music was known as a ideal man or called an ''Renaissance Man.'' Women during this time were better educated but had fewer rights than medieval women. Social status was based on wealth and ability not birthright. A new way of thinking began during this period and was called Humanism, which studied the ''classical'' ideas of Greece and Rome and believed that education could make the world a better place.
How is that change evidenced in today's modern society?
They provided art and architecture that we study today. Also, most of our buildings we made originated from them and some of the things we do still even now originated from them.
