A Message From Heather Patterson, GRHS Principal
Happy Sunday GRHS Longhorns,
Shout out to our Class of 2023 on an amazing graduation ceremony! We are so proud of you and all your hard work you have put in over the past four years to make that night happen! We cannot wait to see all the GR-eat things you do and accomplish outside the walls of GR! Go be GR-eat Longhorn Alum!
This is the final week of the 22-23 school year...summer is finally loading! Continue making those good choices, as we are not done just yet! Finish strong with attendance, academically in classes, and good behavior by following ALL the MANDATORY rules and expectations that have been in place since day one. ID's and Dress Code are STILL A THING!
GRHS Summer Office Hours 8am-5pm Monday-Thursday. (Closed on Fridays)
The front office will be open Monday-Thursday from 8:00-5:00pm to assist you starting next week! There is only a small crew here during this time until the end of July, so if you are needing something from our teachers, counselors or assistant principals, please reach out to them THIS WEEK. It is final's week for everyone else, please make sure you are in the know of when these are taking place and do not miss it! Students may NOT be picked up early during the exam window. They must remain in the classroom until the exam period is finished. See the schedule and times below. Please know, if you miss the exam, you will be receiving a zero which puts you in danger of failing and being auto-enrolled in summer school. I have included the summer school info below!
We will also be getting STAAR EOC scores this week. If you did not pass one or more of your EOC's (a graduation requirement at high school) you will be enrolled in summer school. Be expecting an email AND a phone call from your GRHS counselor team about information on what for and when you will need to attend summer school to get the content targeted instruction and retake the test this summer. Again, passing EOC's are a graduation requirement at the high school level, the good news is Summer School 2023 will be taking place right here at GRHS this summer, so you will not have far to travel. Let's take care of it this summer, so that you can start fresh in August.
*EXEMPTIONS WILL BE WIPED OUT IF YOU HAVE FINES*
Please log in and see if you have any fines for the additional IDs you had to buy due to not having yours with you. I do not want you caught off guard when your exemptions are NOT approved due to outstanding fees. If you do not show up for your test, you will be receiving a zero. I have included the directions below. Check today and take care of paying it BEFORE your exams begin!
*If you do not have exemptions, and still have outstanding fines on the last day of school, your 23-24 fall schedule will have a HOLD on it, and you may have to rechoose classes with what is available. Please get this taken care of Monday!
ID Weekly Reminder
ID MUST be worn visibly on the top half of your body EVERY DAY! I announce this EVERY SINGLE MORNING. If you cannot find yours please scan the Blue/Yellow QR code in this newsletter, in the classrooms, or hanging in the front of the school service window to buy one.
Included in this edition of our GRHS Longhorn News:
- ID's and Dress Code still matter! Do not enter this building without your ID! (PS: Put that ID in a safe place over the summer as a backup for next year. We will be giving you another one for 23-24, but having two will ensure you are always prepared to enter the building in the Fall.)
- Check to see if you have Library/ID/Calculator/Textbook Fines - Exemptions will be wiped out if you still have fines! Please take care of it Monday! Thanks to all of you that already did this!
- Final Exam week! No student may be picked up EARLY during the exam window! You must wait until the "final exam period" has ended. (see the schedule below to know the exact times) Please do not miss your final exam or you will receive a zero and auto-enrolled in summer school, if you are failing.
- Make sure you do not have any fines, or all your exemptions will be voided out and you will have to take the test or receive a zero.

HELP KEEP GRHS A SAFE (AND HEALTHY) PLACE TO BE! USE THE TIP LINE TO REPORT UNSAFE INCIDENTS!
Reminder: Do not bring drugs into this building, or I will be asking your parents to join you in your classes and walk you to the restrooms when needed. Longhorns, we are better than this! It's time to make the right choices and finish strong! Your classmates and your health are worth it to me!
Want to help? Here is what I will need on the tip line:
- Name(s) or if you don't know them, a VERY DETAILED description of what they look like/or what they are wearing. This is very important.
- EXACT time and EXACT bathroom they were in. We can use cameras to track them down.
- Your name (which will stay anonymous except from admin). If you CHOOSE to help us and we catch them, you will be earning a reward.
Juniors - Sophomores - Freshman
Dress Code Check and Door Safety!
All students must follow the expectations, parents please speak to your student, this is not optional.
- Current GRHS ID's on the second you walk through our doors.
- Do NOT open exterior doors to ANYONE!
- Shorts must have at least a 3 inch inseam which means I can EASILY see them well below the bottom of your t-shirt/sweatshirt.
- There should be NO visible mid-drift (skin) showing between your tops and your bottoms. Just wearing a jacket (that is wide open is not acceptable). Zip it up ALL DAY or wear a longer shirt please! Thanks!
Getting your permit? Please request your VOE using the button below!
If you are needing a VOE, we are able to help you by clicking this button below to request! Please allow 48 hour (business day) turn around on all requests. You will be picking these up in the student service window, and we will let you know when it is ready!
RESTROOM ZONES - LOCKED DOORS - DRESS CODE!
REMINDER! Airpods, Headphones, and Earbuds only allowed during YOUR advisory and YOUR lunch time (and ONLY if you have your ID on) If you choose to bring them to school, you are solely responsible for keeping up with them.
WEARING YOUR ID IS MANDATORY EVERY DAY FOR STAFF AND STUDENTS. $5 REPLACEMENT CHARGE
Student badges will serve as the student ID and SmartTag all in one card. With this ID our GRHS students are able to ride the bus, purchase breakfast/lunch, check out library books, able to use their personal devices (phones/airpods, etc) during lunch and advisory.
Refusing to wear your ID visibly on the top half of your body, is not an option, and will result in the consequences stated on the consequence chart below. Please make sure you are wearing your OWN ID.
Every GRHS student has been gifted an ID, protective plastic cover, and lanyard. It is imperative that our Longhorns adhere to this expectation, as this is part of the daily dress code for staff and students. If you need another badge or lose this one there is a $5 replacement cost. This is NOT optional, it is part of dress code. You can pay by cash or it will be charged to your student library account, for EACH replacement you need. Please note that a hold will be placed on your semester grades, transcripts, and final exemptions if this fine is not cleared.
Need a REPLACEMENT ALREADY?
If you are needing to PURCHASE ANOTHER student ID, please use the QR code (above) to request one. You can either pay $5 cash when you pick it up, or we will charge your school library account if you do not have cash. Emails will be sent in Skyward to parent and student emails each time you are charged.
Please use the link below to email the GRHS Attendance Office! Attendance Notes MUST be turned in within 5 days of when you return!
