Jackson Elementary Weekly Update
Week of March 30, 2020 #GreatestSchoolonEarth
From Mrs. Cliburn:
Hello Tiger families!
Thank you very much for your patience and understanding as we navigate our new reality of school closure, staying home, social distancing, and trying to keep ourselves and our loved ones healthy. These are certainly uncharted waters, and I thank you for your support. I know many of you are facing many different challenges. My thoughts are with each of our Jackson families.
Below you will find information about distance learning, meal distribution, and more. Please feel free to reach out to me with ANY questions or concerns you may have and I will be glad to address them. You can email me at jcliburn@norman.k12.ok.us.
You can also go to www.normanpublicschools.org/health for more information on NPS's response to COVUD-19. If you have not visited this site, please take a minute to look as it has very important and timely information.
Thinking of you,
Jill Cliburn
Changes in Meals for Students
To better serve our students and families, we will begin providing weekly meals instead of daily meals at our school sites. This approach will be more convenient for families as they will only need to go to the school one time and also will allow us to reduce contact and better protect our students, families and the child nutrition staff.
The weekly grab-and-go meals will be distributed on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the car lines at every NPS school site. Families who cannot pick up the weekly meals on Monday may pick them up from any school Tuesday, also from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Families who cannot pick up weekly meals on Monday or Tuesday are encouraged to contact our Child Nutrition office at 405-366-5908 to make alternative arrangements.
All meals are free and available to children 18 years and under.
Distance Learning begins April 6
On April 6, we will begin our distance learning. The district and teachers have been working hard trying to create ways to help your student continue their learning and maintain their skills while staying connected to their teachers and school community. NPS is working on a website page dedicated to distance learning. It is a work in progress, but there is some helpful information in the FAQ section. Here is the link: https://www.normanpublicschools.org/distancelearning.
Here's what I want you to remember about distance learning:
- Just do the best you can. Some will be able to do everything their teacher sends, and some will not. That's okay!
- The physical, mental, and emotional health of your family comes first.
- You, as parents, have the freedom to determine how much your child does.
- We are working on providing enrichment opportunities to help your child keep up with their skills, so do whatever is right for your family.
Your child's teacher will be their primary contact for distance learning. Please be on the lookout for emails from your child's teacher for more information.
It is very important that your contact information is up-to-date in your Parent Portal account, as this is the information our educators use to contact you. You can click here to login to your account. If you do not have a Parent Portal account, please click here to register for one.
Distance learning does not necessarily mean online learning. While some options will be technology-based, we can and will provide options that do not require technology. However, if you do not have internet access or a suitable device (like a tablet or computer), please let your child's teacher know and we will make sure your child has what they need for distance learning.
