Principal Allen's Weekly Newsletter
October 28 , 2019
Dear Spicewood Elementary Parents & Community Members,
It's hard to believe we have completed the first nine weeks of school! Report cards came home in last week's Friday folder. In the past we have sent Excellent Attendance & Honor Roll certificates with report cards. This year's timeline for submitting student grades did not allow us enough time to generate them with report cards. If your student earned this recognition, it will come home this week in their Friday folder.
Parents, please drive with caution during morning arrival. I am still continuing to receive emails from parents and Spicewood employees informing me of near tragic incidents. I have also personally observed cars speeding in the school zone. We have 879 children who are depending on us to drive safely. Thank you for making their safety a priority.
Have a wonderful week!
Mrs. Allen

CAMPUS ANNOUNCEMENTS
Installation of Entry Intercom/Camera Devices
The Bond 2018 security project to install entry intercom/camera devices at all schools began at Spicewood last week! The new device will be installed on the exterior wall near the front door's access control card reader. When fully functional, the new intercom will allow front office staff to communicate with visitors before letting them into the school building.
Halloween Costumes Not Allowed at School
Halloween costumes are not allowed at school as they can be a distraction to the learning environment. Parents will be contacted to bring a change of clothes for students wearing costumes to school.
Open Inquiry Lab
The Inquiry Lab at Spicewood Elementary will be open soon! Beginning November 6th, the lab will be open to families to explore, inquire, and create! On specified dates, times will be from 3:00pm-4:00pm. Parents are expected to remain with their students for the entire hour. We can accommodate up to 20 families per date so please be sure to reserve you spot ahead of time using this link: Spicewood Open Inquiry Lab. You can also find the link on our website. A huge thank you to Mrs. Gunz for working with Mrs. Oates, our IB Coordinator, to organize and get the lab ready!
Announcements from the Parent Teacher Association (PTA)
Spicewood Teacher & Staff Birthday Celebration #2
The PTA Teacher/Staff Appreciation Group puts together birthday celebrations for our teachers and staff five times during the school year. We will be celebrating the second birthday celebration event on November 6th, 2019.
These celebrations are held on Wednesday afternoons and coincide with faculty meetings. We ask 10 volunteers to bake sweet treats (cookies, cakes, bread, pies, brownies..whatever you love to make) or make savory treats and bring in and deliver to the office before 2:00pm on the day of the celebration.
Please see the SignUp Genius link below to sign up to help and to read more details about the event. If you can not volunteer for this event, there will be three more birthday celebrations to participate in.
