Mrs. Stevens' Update

April 19, 2015

Hello Benefield family! Thank you for signing up for Remind. This will be my primary way of communicating with you until I officially assume the role of principal on July 1. It has been a pleasure meeting with you and seeing you in the hallways. If I have not made it around to talking with you, please know that I will soon. Feel free to stop me in the hallway to introduce yourself and/or to assess my memory of your name. My goal is to recognize everyone by face and by name before May 22. I just want to remind you that I am currently performing my duties as an assistant principal at Jackson Elementary School so I am not at Benefield every day. I look forward to talking with each and every one of you though.

I will send out SignUpGenius to schedule times with me when I am at Benefield starting the week of April 27. My temporary office space is located next to Mrs. McNally’s portable classroom/office. Feel free to stop by! My schedule will typically consist of two days at Benefield and three days at Jackson until the end of the school year. Free feel to email me should you have questions on days that I am not in the building.

I look forward to working with you and am excited about the things that we will experience and discover together as we join forces with Discovery High School, Richards Middle School, and Alford, Baggett and Cedar Hill Elementary schools to form the newest Gwinnett County Public School cluster. As we embark upon this journey, I know that the 2015-16 school year will be a year of change as many of your colleagues, students, and parents are transitioning to other places. Despite these changes, I know that you will endure just as you have countless times before. Please know that I am committed to making this transition as smoothly as possible for you by preserving sacred practices at Benefield.

The staffing plan and classroom assignments will be shared on Friday, May 15. In keeping with current Benefield tradition, Friday, May 22 has been designated as “Let’s Get Moving" Day. Communication about “Let’s Get Moving" Day will be sent to you by Mr. Knight on Friday, May 15 after the staffing plan and classroom assignments are published.

I am currently interviewing candidates for assistant principal positions. Please plan to attend a brief stand up meeting in the Media Center on Friday, May 22 at 7:35 a.m. to meet the newly appointed assistant principals. Per Board policy, I cannot introduce candidates until after the Board’s approval. Again, thank you for signing up for Remind and please encourage your colleagues to sign up. Have a wonderful week!

Kindest regards,
Shonda Gipson Stevens
