7th Grade ACTS Newsletter

December 14th - 18th

Science - Mrs. Sexton

We will begin our study of cells this week. Students will review basic parts of plant and animal cells. Students will create a model in class. Each student will need to bring a metal hanger to class by Wednesday for this activity.

Science - Mrs. Griffin

The students will be working on The Chemical Nature of Matter Project in class this week. The project will be due on Thursday for presentations. Due to Nine-Weeks testing throughout the week, there will be no new homework assigned. Students are required to finish all USA Test Prep, Study Island and Google Classroom assignments that they have not completed by Friday the 18th.

Math - Mr. Smith

7th grade math students are practicing and practicing two and multi-step equation solving. We are not learning a lot of new content, but rather putting past learning to work to simplify and solve equations. We will also spend a short amount of time learning to solve and graph inequalities.


Students have a chapter 7 test on Thursday (December 17th). The practice test is posted to google classroom. I will provide a worked out answer key early next week.

ELA - Mrs. Templeton

The students are reading A Christmas Carol. They have been given many assignments that they will need to complete by Thursday next week. They will have a test on Thursday as well.

Social Studies - Mrs. Babb

Please check PowerSchool Sunday to see how your child performed on the Industrial Revolution Test. Students will receive a Nine 'Weeks Test Review on Monday


and we will complete it in class and for homework. They will also continue the unit on Imperialism. The Nine Weeks test is scheduled for Thursday.

Social Studies and ELA - Mrs. Owensby

SS - Students will study the rise of imperialism following the Industrial Revolution. Our district nine weeks test will be on Thursday, Dec. 17th.

ELA - Students will have their stems quiz on Wednesday. They will be working in short-story clubs instead of book clubs this week.

Art - Mr. Winchester

7th Grade Art Rotation is working on a collaborative painting of our school in the style of a particular artist. These are due Friday.


7th Grade Art FOCUS is working on a surrealist watercolor painting. It was drawn based off of a collage using the grid transfer method, and they must use 6 or the 12 watercolor techniques to add color. Value will then be added using the pen techniques, which will then make this a mixed media project.

Drama - Mrs. Keenan

7th Graders finished their news story presentations for the class with success! We will be doing a "Secret Santa" swap on Thursday with goodies. We will soon begin preparing for the South Carolina Speech and Theatre Association Festival that occurs in February. Some students from 7th and 8th grade drama focus will attend. More details to come!

Dance - Mrs. Brewington


7th dance focus: We will finish our ballet unit with a test on December 15th on ballet terms and history. We will watch the Nutcracker on December 16th and 17th. Secret Santa is December 17th.Please encourage your child to bring Chromebook fully charged to class and check google classroom daily. We have assignments daily on the Chromebooks.

Strings - Mrs. Hrivnak

7th rotation will be continuing in Essential Elements book 1 for the duration of the quarter.


7th focus will be working on new music called "Instant Recruiting Concert."

Voice - Mrs. Psomas

Students are working on a "Story" about a composition. They are to find out information about the composition and the composer of the piece and why and when your piece was written. With your partner create a google slide presentation that includes: the composer's name, date of birth, a sound clip of the "piece", a description in your own words of the story. Write a dialog/skit to tell the story to our class.
