Dress for the Weather
We do have extra coats, hats, and gloves if any student needs them. Susie's Coats has supplied us with them and if your family is in need of a coat for a child, let us know and we will take care of them.
From Kindergarten and 1st Grade
Pajama Drive
The First Grade and Kindergarten students participated in the Great Bedtime Story Pajama Drive. We collected 62 new pajamas! These pajamas will be donated to families in need through the nonprofit organization entitled Pajama Program. For every pair of pajamas donated, Scholastic Book Clubs will donate a new book to be given with the pajamas! Thank you so much for helping us to help others during this holiday season!
More News from First Grade
Owls
In November, the first graders learned about owls. We read nonfiction books so we could learn interesting facts about owls - what they eat, where they live, and how their bodies' special characteristics help them to survive in the wild. We learned about different kinds of owls and labeled the parts of an owl on a diagram. We also enjoyed fiction stories, such as Owl Babies and Owl Moon.
Nature's Nursery came to Eastwood Elementary to present real information and fun facts about owls. They brought 2 live owls! We learned about an Eastern Screech Owl named Einstein and a Barn Owl named Luther.
Also, we were like real scientists when we dissected replica owl pellets. First graders examined the 'bones' and matched them to a chart to discover what the owl may have eaten. It was exciting to get to take a few 'bones' and some 'fur' home as a reminder of our learning!
2nd Grade News
Second grade has embraced the season of giving. We collected 64 pajamas for those in need through the Scholastic Books Pajama Drive. We also decorated some “Gorgeous Gobblers” and donated them to Otterbein Nursing Home to brighten their Thanksgiving. We spent the month reflecting on what it means to have an “attitude of gratitude”. Second graders ended the month with our Charlie Brown Thanksgiving feast.
5th Grade News
Mrs. Schaffner's 5th graders have been learning about forces and motion.
