Burnette Blast

November 2022

Happy Holidays

As we enter the official holiday season, I want to take just a moment to share how thankful we are to be a part of your child's journey. Children are all influenced in some way by the individuals in their life. At Burnette, of course, we are focused on providing your child with high-quality education, but we also take the time to support your child as they navigate the trials and tribulations of growing up. Our mission is for every child to reach their highest potential and to love coming to school every day!

I shared back in September that a vestibule is being constructed in our front lobby. The district is creating an interior vestibule in every school in Gwinnett as an additional security measure. Visitors to the school will be buzzed in with our video system and will then be allowed to enter the vestibule. Your ID will then be checked, and once you are cleared you will be able to enter the building. Right now the wall has been built; we are just waiting for the glass and doors to be installed.

At the beginning of the year, I also shared that we are streamlining our communication process. Since the Burnette Blast is sent quarterly, it is very important that you are connected with Class Dojo. We send information out through text and email; however, we are utilizing Class Dojo more frequently. If you are not yet connected with Class Dojo, please reach out to your child's teacher for more information.

We will also continue to utilize our Social Media Platforms (Facebook and Instagram) to share all the fun and exciting learning that happens at Burnette every day! We are posting fun pictures almost every day!

We are going to have an amazing year together! If there is anything I can do to support you, please don't hesitate to reach out: 678-546-2170, sally.lehmann@gcpsk12.org.

Burnette's Local School Plan for Improvement 2022-2023

Every year, local schools each develop their Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) to establish goals and action items to help improve the success of our students. Our plan this year is aligned to Gwinnett County's Blueprint for the Future and focuses on the four strategic priorities of Empathy, Equity, Effectiveness, and Excellence. You can view the details of Burnette's LSPI on our website (https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/15109).

Please let me know if you would like to talk more about our plan, sally.lehmann@gcpsk12.org.

Holiday Assistance

The Counseling Team is requesting your help with our annual Thanksgiving Food Box collection and Angel Tree holiday assistance. We are excited to be able to support some of our families in need during the holiday season. Last year, we were able to provide our families with both Thanksgiving and holiday food boxes. They were SO appreciative!

You will receive specific information concerning the items we are looking to be donated for our Thanksgiving Food Box Collection.

This year, Burnette will continue its tradition to help families in need of extra holiday cheer by placing an “Angel Tree” in the front office with the holiday wishes of some of our very own BES families. If you would like to participate, simply select an angel from the tree, shop for the items listed, and return the wrapped gifts to the counseling team no later than Monday, December 5th, 2022.

Please contact the Counseling Team for any questions or if your family is in need of assistance: holly.rivas@gcpsk12.org and sabrina.rivera@gcpsk12.org

Media Center Updates

BES Families, we are so proud of our BES Readers! Our kindergarten, first, and second-grade students get a new reading challenge each month. As they complete the different reading activities, they color in the matching part of the picture. All reading challenges are due at the end of the month.

Our third, fourth, and fifth-grade students complete their monthly reading challenges online using Beanstack to log books they finish. Each month we have a new challenge, as well as an ongoing genre challenge for our fourth and fifth-grade students. You can get more information about our reading challenges and using Beanstack by going to the Media page of our website, https://www.gcpsk12.org/domain/4305
