Please look in Friday Folder for PLP confirmation notices! Thanks!
News from Ms. Hess
In literacy this week, we took our iReady reading assessment and explored character traits that are helpful to a character. Then, we identified one of the positive traits that we aspire to achieve this school year. Look forward to seeing your child's aspiration on a balloon in the hallway during PLP week.
In writing, we are publishing our first piece this school year. We wrote a piece of free verse poetry and created a collage to display our poem. Those, too, will be found in the hall during PLP week!
In math, we learned about exponents, powers of 10, and reviewed multiplying 3 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. If you'd like your child to practice items we've been learning, guide them to IXL: A4, E3, C1, C2, C3, C4.
In science, we planted wheat seeds, placed half the containers in black bags and half in clear bags and made predictions about what we will find on Monday. I can't wait to see the surprise on their faces!
In addition, we were invited to walk with our friends at Colonial Manor to raise awareness for Alzheimer's disease as a community outreach activity. They kindly shared delicious cookies and 7up after our walk. It was a wonderful way to honor our neighbors and share the youthful joy of our kids.
Students who already have instruments may bring them next week on Tuesday and Friday. Whole group band is scheduled on Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00, but will not start until most kids who plan to be in band have instruments. Students with instruments will go for small group lessons on every Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00 until whole group band begins.
Starting October 2, whole group band will be on every Tuesday and Friday from 2:20 - 3:00. Musicians will also receive a small group lesson once a week on a Tuesday or Friday.
Wunderbar Party - Letter "P" Party!
Way to go, 5th grade on meeting the expectations of being Safe, Appropriate, Involved Learners (SAIL!)!
Binder of Awesome!!! Look forward to seeing this again on Friday, September 28.
Learning Goals This Week:
Math: I can use exponents to express powers of 10 and multiply multi-digit numbers by a single digit number.
Writing: I can publish my poetry on a google doc, separating my poem into stanzas, and create a collage as a base for my poem.
Science: I can create a habitat for my redworms. I can plant wheat, make observations, and record my findings.
