Library iCon 2020 (January 24, 2020)
Librarians are in a great position to impact learning on a campus. To be better equipped for this role, join us for Library iCon, a day full of learning and networking! Participants will leave with not only ideas on becoming instructional leaders on their campus but also tools and resources to share with students and teachers. From developing and promoting a diverse collection to collaborating with and supporting classroom teachers, you will leave feeling ready to facilitate learning in the library!
This day needs YOU and your great ideas! Consider putting in a proposal to share something you are doing in your library or grab some friends and share a success or a new idea in your district.
STEM/STEAM Resources
November 8, 2019, is National STEM/STEAM Day, but you don't have to limit STEM-related tasks to just one day. Here are just a few ideas and resources that you might find useful to support a maker/STEM area in your library.
- Heather Lister - This site offers resources for Making & Literacy as well as design thinking. One of my favorite ideas from her is having your students create the tutorial videos/booklets for the makerspace. This is a great way to bring in writing and support ELAR standards.
- MakerMaven - MakerMaven is a resource for makerspace items and the professional learning that is often needed to accompany these purchases. Follow @maker_maven on Twitter for maker challenges and more.
- Makers Making Change - I learned of this organization from Cathy Hammond in Mineral Wells ISD. Her students partnered with the Occupational Therapist to design and print assistive devices on the 3D printer.
