What's Going On in the Library?
May 2021 - Mr. Walsh Edition
That went by fast!
The smiles on their faces as Ms. Moore and I carried boxes of books into classes made the effort worth it every time. Watching their faces light up when we presented a book they loved was an experience I will never forget.
It has been a blast, and the Oak Lawn students have been a pleasure to work with. Thank you to everyone in this community for being so welcoming. I hope to work with many of you soon! - Mr. Walsh
What we did together during my time here ...
- Kindergarten and 1st grade learned about the differences between fiction and nonfiction books while we read about snails and bears.
- 1st grade learned about the parts of a book and created their own titles.
- 2nd grade learned about call numbers and how to use them in the library.
- 3rd grade learned about the differences between facts and opinions, using Honeybee by Candace Fleming and Eric Rohmann and watched a video of some bee keepers. If you would like to watch, the video is below.
- 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade were qualified to vote in the Rhode Island Children's Book Award after reading and summarizing Just Like Rube Goldberg.
- 4th and 5th grade practiced reading recipes and talked about some of our favorite things to cook at home.
- 4th and 5th grade practiced using World Book Online to cite our sources and avoid plagiarism.
- 5th grade wrote persuasive essays to try and change the perspectives of our classmates. Hot topic: Is cheerleading a sport?
My Favorite Reads of The Month
Red: A Crayon's Story by Michael Hall
