The Green Gem...Where Students and Staff are Treasured!
Parent's Right To Know...
GES is a Title I School receiving federal funds to improve instruction in math and reading.
Parents of students attending Title 1 schools may request information about the professional qualifications of their child's teachers. Parents of elementary students may request in writing to the school principal information about their child's teacher including:
* Any college or university degree or certification held.
* The subject area of the teacher's degree or certification.
* Whether the teacher is certified by the State of Maryland to teach a grade level or subject area.
* Whether the teacher holds a provisional certificate.
* Whether the child is served by paraprofessionals and, if so, parents may request their professional qualifications.
First weeks...
The first day of school went well with a minimum of issues, despite some wild weather at the end of the day.
Transportation - It is stressful when your child’s bus is delayed. This happens occasionally but
never more so than in the first few weeks of school as students and families are adjusting to a
new schedule, and bus routes are being modified to accommodate unexpected numbers. When
a delay is experienced, our first priority is to ensure student safety and correct the issue causing
the delay. However, we will make every effort to send a SchoolMessenger call or email to
advise of a delay. Please make sure your contact information is accurate in SchoolMessenger.
Technology - All students are receiving laptops or iPads this year, depending on their grade. We
ask for your patience as we work through assigning devices and dealing with issues that may
require the attention of our Technology Department. No student will be held responsible for
schoolwork that requires using a device they have not yet received.
Please note, before allowing a student to take a device home, we must have:
● the student’s device from the previous school year
● a signed Device Agreement
Devices will not be sent home every night. Devices will be sent home in the event of an extended school closure or for specific assignments determined by the teacher.
Health & Wellness - Our students did very well overcoming any first day jitters and
nervousness. However, the first weeks back to school, especially given last year’s challenges,
may result in unexpected anxiety for some students. Please be assured that staff is here to help
in any way possible. If you or your student would like to speak with a school counselor,
administrator, or staff at the School Based Health Center, please just ask. We have the
resources at hand to ensure students have a healthy and successful school year.
Quarantine Flow Chart
Attached is a great graphic/flowchart developed by the Caroline County Health Department explaining how we make decisions regarding Quarantine. Hopefully it is helpful and makes it easier to understand. It is available publicly on the Caroline County HD website.
Measures in place at GES to deter quarantine
Students are required to wear their masks on the school bus.
Students wear masks in the building at all times with the exception of eating breakfast and lunch.
Students are spaced 6 feet apart in the lunch room whenever possible and when not possible are seated with no more than 2 other students to a table.
Students are permitted to take off their masks when outside for recess and/or PE as long as they maintain social distancing.
We appreciate the incredible support from our families in keeping our students as safe as possible.
It is by using these strategies that we will be able to limit the amount of students being quarantined and therefore keep our classrooms open to students for the entire school year.
Masks
Please remember:
Masks should cover the nose and mouth without holes, valves or vents, and be in accordance with the dress code.
Stay home if:
you have had any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 or another illness in the last 10 days
you have been exposed to a person with COVID-19 in the last 14 days
