CHAUCIE'S PLACE, SMART STEPS
The Chaucie’s Place, Smart Steps: A Body Safety Program for Children presentations will take place September 21, 2017 for kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade students at FCE. This program has been a part of many of our Hamilton Southeastern elementary schools in the past, as well as in several other Hamilton County school districts.
We would like to invite you to attend a parent meeting at Geist Elementary on the evening of September 6th at 6pm to provide you with additional information about the presentations. This presentation is for parents only.
The 30 minute presentations will be given within each classroom by a trained Smart Steps presenter. All Smart Steps presenters have completed background checks. They share a scripted, age appropriate presentation so the same message is communicated to all students in their grade level. The teacher will also be in the classroom during the presentation.
4th grade only: After the classroom presentation, 4th grade students will have the opportunity to mark “Yes” or “No” on a piece of paper to answer the question, “Do you need to talk to someone because you or someone you know was touched on a private part of the body for no good reason or to play a game?” A Smart Steps presenter and Mrs. Meyer, our school counselor, will follow up with each student that marks, “Yes.”
These presentations will be provided to all kindergarten, 2nd, and 4th grade classes. Although not required, each child’s attendance in the Smart Steps Body Safety program is strongly recommended. If you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in the program, please contact school counselor, Mrs. Marna Meyer at mmeyer@hse.k12.in.us or (317)594-4180.

Response-to-Instruction (RtI)
RtI is a general education initiative designed to provide high quality instruction and interventions matches to student needs, and using learning rate over time and level of performance to make important educational decisions. The RtI model is based on a three-tiered model of service delivery with a focus on early intervention and prevention of academic and behavioral concerns. Data collected during this process provides valuable information regarding students’ educational progress and response to interventions. Students who do not demonstrate a response to well-implemented, scientifically-based interventions at the Tier 3 level would be referred for an educational evaluation to determine eligibility for special education. RtI is a component of HSE’s Child Find Process.
REPORT AN ILLNESS?
Please remember to call our attendance mailbox at 317-594-4180 to report any absences or late arrivals. Be sure to leave your child’s name, their teacher’s name and a brief reason for their absence. Even if you email the teacher, you MUST call the attendance line or speak with someone in the front office! Thank you!
ON-LINE SCHOOL DIRECTORY
We have had a number of parents wanting to find ways to schedule playdates, parties, etc. with their children’s classmates. HSE has made this possible with our Online School Directory. This service is only available for those families that choose to “OPT IN”.
You may select what information you would like other parents to see (such as address, phone numbers) for birthday invitations and the like. If you would like to “OPT IN” please follow the steps below:
Login to Skyward
Click on “MY ACCOUNT” tab in the upper right corner
Scroll down to the bottom of the page and find the School Directory section
- Choose which information you would like to share
- Click Save in the upper right corner
Please note that the only people that will have access to this, are the families at Fall Creek Elementary. If you have older children at other schools, their information will only be shared with the families at their school. We hope this will help our students to be able to stay connected outside of school hours
SAFE VISITOR BADGE
Anyone wishing to volunteer in the school must have a SafeVisitor ID Badge. Please note this policy also applies to anyone wishing to join students for lunch (after Labor Day). Simply follow the quick link on our FCE website to apply for a background check. This process takes 5-7 days.
APPLICATION FOR FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH
Application for Free or Reduced Lunch—Applications for the Free/Reduced Lunch Program are available through your Skyward Family Access under the Food Service tab. Simply click the application tab. The system will take you through a series of steps including a parent letter, instructions, the Federal income chart, Privacy Act and Non-Discrimination Statements. After completing all six parts of the application, you will electronically sign and click I agree. After reviewing your information, you will click submit. Once you click submit, the application is sent electronically to the Food Service Department where it will be reviewed for approval or denial. After the application is reviewed you will receive an email indicating if the application was approved or denied for benefits. This process does need to be completed every year.
