Hello NGMS Community! We have reached the end of the 2023-24 school year. I want to thank our community for their ongoing support of Northglenn Middle School. Students have had a successful end to the school year. We look forward to celebrating our 8th grade class with some fun activities on their last day of school. I know many of them are looking forward to entering high school. We wish them well with the next step in their educational journey. We are excited to welcome our new incoming 6th graders for the 2023-24 school year. I hope students and staff have a restful and enjoyable summer break. It is essential to take time to recharge and relax before the start of the new school year.

¡Hola comunidad de NGMS! Hemos llegado al final del año escolar 2022-23. Quiero agradecer a nuestra comunidad por su continuo apoyo a Northglenn Middle School. Los estudiantes han tenido un fin de año escolar exitoso. Esperamos celebrar nuestra clase de 8o grado con actividades divertidas en su último día de escuela. Se que muchos de ellos esperan con emoción entrar a la escuela preparatoria. Les deseamos lo mejor en su próximo viaje educativo. Visual Arts Practices Pyrography

In art, 8th graders have been working on their Knights Emblem project using Pyrography in our new Industrial Design Class. Pyrography is a very old way to draw and decorate wood. This technique can be seen throughout history all the way back to ancient Egypt. We had two winners in our district art show, Manny Madrano (7th grade) and Adrienne King (8th grade).

ELD Learns About Colorado

In ELD, 7th & 8th graders recently completed a Unit on the Language of Justifying. They learned about the history of Colorado and explored problems and justified solutions to problems in our the state. They practiced great writing and speaking in this Unit!

8th Grade Choir Performs at the Blossom Festival

Choir students have been busy at NGMS. The 8th grade advanced choir traveled to Canon City, CO on May 5th for the Blossom Festival and performed for judges, representing our school well. Also, the final choir concerts of the school year for 8th grade choirs are on May 16th and for 6th/7th grade students on May 18th. Both concerts are at 6pm in the NGMS cafeteria. We hope you can attend and hear the beautiful music these students have been working on and celebrate their final accomplishments in choir before the year ends.

El Coro de 8o Grado se Presenta en el Festival Blossom

Los estudiantes de coro se han mantenido ocupados en NGMS. Los estudiantes de coro avanzado de 8o grado viajaron a Canon City, CO el 5 de mayo para el Festival de Blossom y se presentaron frente a los jueces, haciendo buena representación de nuestra escuela. Además, los conciertos finales de coro del año escolar para los chicos del coro de 8o serán el 16 de mayo y para los de 6o/7o el 18 de mayo. Ambos conciertos serán a las 6 p.m. en la cafetería de NGMS. Esperamos que puedan hacer presencia y escuchar la hermosa música con la cual estos estudiantes han estado trabajando y celebrar sus logros finales de coro antes de finalizar el año.

What is Cinco de Mayo?

Cinco de Mayo is a holiday that celebrates the date of the Mexican army's May 5, 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War.

In 1862, French troops attempted to establish a monarchy in Mexico to gain influence in North America. The 6,000 French troops sent by Napoleon III outnumbered the small army of Mexicans who were led by General Ignacio Zaragoza. However, the Mexican troops defeated the French troops and forced them to retreat.

¿Qué es el Cinco de Mayo?

El Cinco de Mayo es una festividad que celebra la fecha de la victoria del ejército mexicano el 5 de mayo de 1862 sobre Francia en la Batalla de Puebla durante la Guerra franco-mexicana.

En 1862, las tropas francesas intentaron establecer una monarquía en México para así ganar influencia en Norteamérica. Los seis mil soldados franceses enviados por Napoleon III superaban al pequeño ejército mexicano liderado por el General Ignacio Zaragoza. Sin embargo, las tropas mexicanas vencieron a las tropas francesas y los obligaron a rendirse.

Choir, Band, and Orchestra Score Big in Canon City

On May 4 and May 5 choir, band, and orchestra performed at the Canon City Blossom Festival. They received excellent ratings from the judges and represented our school well. Nice job students (see photos)!

NGMS Performs for 5th Graders

On April 27th, Northglenn Middle School Mariachi performed at the Federal Heights Elementary 5th grade music showcase. 28 students performed traditional Mariachi music.

Congratulations to Mrs. Alvarez

Congratulations to Megan Alvarez for being one of only 16 teachers in the country to be awarded a Fulbright scholarship! Megan will be traveling to Jordan this summer to study the country’s history and culture and will bring her learning back to Adams 12!

She will travel to Jordan for the summer and participate in various workshops, engage with local leaders and the UNHCR, work with Jordanian educators and community members, travel to important cultural and historical sites, and visit a refugee camp. As part of her participation, she will be creating a comprehensive curriculum project to be used in the classroom and that will be shared with educators in both Adams 12 Five Star Schools and across the country. Way to go, Mrs. Alvarez (see photo)!

Enhorabuena a Megan Álvarez por ser una de las 16 profesoras del país que ha recibido una beca Fulbright. ¡Megan viajará a Jordania este verano para estudiar la historia y la cultura del país y traerá su aprendizaje de vuelta a Adams 12!

Viajará a Jordania durante el verano y participará en varios talleres, se relacionará con líderes locales y con ACNUR, trabajará con educadores jordanos y miembros de la comunidad, viajará a importantes lugares culturales e históricos y visitará un campo de refugiados. Como parte de su participación, creará un amplio proyecto curricular que se utilizará en el aula y se compartirá con educadores de ambos países. Adams 12 Five Star Schools y de todo el país. Study, Snacks, and Soccer

On Thursday, April 27, flex lab students received a study skills session from four University of Denver (DU) students, which included our former student, Mike Marquez. The session focused on the importance of studying and school. After the study skills session, the DU students played soccer with our students. What a fun day!

El jueves 27 de abril, los estudiantes de flex lab recibieron una sesión de estudios por parte de los estudiantes de la Universidad de Denver (DU), lo cual incluyó un antiguo estudiante nuestro, Mike Marquez. La sesión fue enfocada en la importancia de estudiar y la escuela. Después de las sesión de habilidades de estudio, los estudiantes de DU jugaron fútbol con nuestros estudiantes. ¡Qué día tan divertido!

Soccer Club Teaches Students Drills and Skills

Northglenn Middle School soccer club began the beginning of April. Our weekly practices every Monday consisted of skill drills, and 20 minutes of game time. Consistently we had 20 kids, most of whom were 7th graders. Our culminating activity was the Blue and Yellow scrimmage game. This was a fantastic game with the score ending 1-1. Club de Fútbol Enseña Ejercicios y Habilidades a Estudiantes

El club de fútbol de Northglenn Middle comenzó a principios de abril. Nuestras prácticas semanales de cada lunes consistian en ejercicios de habilidad, y 20 minutos de juego. Consistentemente teníamos 20 niños, en su mayoría estudiantes de séptimo grado. Nuestro partido culminante fue el juego escaramuza Azul y Amarillo. Este fue un juego fantástico con el resultado final de 1 a 1. ¡Mira el collage de fotos de nuestra divertida temporada!

62nd Anniversary/Community Concert Huge Success

On May 11, Northglenn Middle School celebrated its 62nd anniversary!! Despite the rain, there was lots of fun to be had. Outside, we had two great food trucks. Inside, we had snow cones, book giveaways, popcorn, and music. In the commons, a band called Bondago, made up of former NGMS students, played popular songs. In the gym, the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade bands belted out some awesome tunes. For a special treat, our superintendent, Mr. Gdowski, joined the band and played his saxophone! We even had the mayor of Northglenn, Meredith Leighty, here! What a fantastic night (see photos)!

62 Aniversario/Concierto Comunitario Gran Exito

El 11 de mayo, Northglenn Middle School celebró su aniversario número 62! A pesar de la lluvia, hubo mucha diversión. Afuera, teníamos dos loncheras de comida. Adentro, tuvimos conos de hielo, libros para regalar, palomitas, y música. En los comunes tuvimos una banda llamada Bondango, conformada por antiguos estudiantes de NGMS, tocaron canciones populares. En el gimnasio, las bandas de 6o, 7o, y 8o grado tocaron algunas canciones maravillosas. Como un regalo especial, nuestro superintendente, el Sr. Gdowski, se unió a la banda tocando su saxofón! Incluso tuvimos a la alcaldesa de Northglenn, Meredith Leighty aquí! Que noche tan fantástica (ver fotos)!

NGMS Leadership students hosted their first Loteria & BINGO Family Night on Thursday, May 4. Participants enjoyed a nacho bar, socializing, and Loteria - a BINGO-style game with pictures that is popular in Mexico - and, of course, PRIZES for the winners! Be on the lookout for the next Loteria Family event in the Fall!

Los estudiantes de liderazgo de NGMS presentaron una noche familiar de lotería y bingo el jueves 4 de mayo. Los participantes disfrutaron de un bar de nachos, socialización, y lotería, y por supuesto PREMIOS para los ganadores! Este al pendiente para el próximo evento familiar de Lotería en el otoño!!

Field Day Fun!

Leadership students finished out their year of tutoring at Federal Heights Elementary School by volunteering at the FHE Field Day on May 8. The student leaders did a great job running the stations, cheering on students, and making sure everyone soaked up the fun!

Los estudiantes de liderazgo terminaron su año de tutoría en la escuela primaria Federal Heights Elementary como voluntarios de día de campo el 8 de mayo. Los estudiantes líderes hicieron un gran trabajo dirigiendo las estaciones, animando a los estudiantes, y asegurándose de que todos estuvieran divirtiéndose!

Sources of Strength students are participating in decorating bags for Project Angel Heart. This organization delivers meals to people who are experiencing serious illness using the bags others decorate for them. This is an act of GENEROSITY, which is one of the eight sources of strength on “the wheel.”

We are also hosting a Sources of Strength Family Movie Night on Wednesday, May 17th in the cafeteria from 4:30-6:30 pm! This is a way we can build up family support and positive friends as well as enjoy a healthy activity! Popcorn and drinks will be provided! Students and siblings who attend need to have an adult with them for this event, however. One adult per 3 students/children will be allowed. We have RSVP forms available in the office to let us know if you are attending. We are currently surveying our students to decide which movie will be shown! Los estudiantes de Fuentes de Fuerza están participando en decorar bolsas para Project Angel Heart (Proyecto Corazon de Angel). Esta organización entrega comidas a personas que están pasando por enfermedades graves, usando las bolsas que otros decoran para ellos. Esto es un acto de GENEROSIDAD, lo cual es una de las ocho fuentes de fortaleza en “la rueda.”

También presentaremos una Noche Familiar de Película el miércoles, 17 de mayo en la cafetería de 4:30 a 6:30 pm! Esta es una manera de construir apoyo familiar y amistades positivas y a su vez disfrutar de una actividad sana! Habrá palomitas y bebidas para dar! Los estudiantes y sus hermanos menores que asistan deberán venir acompañados por un adulto a este evento, aunque solo se permitirá tres estudiantes/niños por cada adulto. Tenemos formularios de RSVP disponibles en la oficina para saber si nos acompañarán. Actualmente estamos encuestando a los estudiantes para decidir cual pelicula veremos! Improvements to our Makerspace Area

We are excited to announce our new Lego Wall in the library at Northglenn Middle. Students are enjoying the Lego Wall at lunch, while they are in the library creating all kinds of fun things.

The Lego wall was one of several improvements to the Makerspace area. We now have more engineering activities and have been hosting Makerspace at lunch. We have had limited success with this and will be working hard to get the word out for next year's school year. More fun activities will be included but there will always be the Lego Wall and space for reading. Yay Makerspace. In the photo below, Brayden D and Noe R. proudly display their penguin creation.

Nos emociona anunciar que nuestro nuevo muro de Legos en la librería de Northglenn Middle. Los estudiantes están disfrutando el muro de Legos en el almuerzo, mientras están en la librería creando todo tipo de cosas divertidas.

El muro de Legos fue una de las varias mejoras para el área de Makerspace. Ahora tenemos más actividades de ingeniería y hemos estado Makerspace durante el almuerzo. Hemos tenido un éxito limitado con esto y trabajaremos arduamente para correr la voz para el próximo año escolar. Más actividades divertidas serán incluidas, pero siempre habrá el muro de Legos y espacio para leer. Yey Makerspace!
