Student Drop Off Reminder
Reminder: If you are dropping your child off at HCS in the morning; you may do so after 7:30. Students should be dropped off at the door by the side/parent parking lot. They may enter through these doors between 7:30 and 8:00. After 8:00 students must enter through the front door.
We have had a few parent concerns about parents lingering in the parking lot and have been asked to remind any caregivers/parents who are dropping off to please "drop and go". Thank you.

CVSD Virtual Town Halls
We are pleased to invite all community members to attend our monthly Virtual Town Halls. They will take place from 6:30-7:30 pm on the second Wednesday of each month. In the odd-numbered months, we'll focus on our strategic planning. When it's an even-numbered month, the topic will be diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Please join us on Wednesday, September 14th at 6:30 pm for the first CVSD Strategic Planning Town Hall. Superintendent Sanchez will give a short presentation on what a strategic plan is, our timeline, and how it fits into our current and future work, and will then take questions from the audience. The Zoom meeting information can be found on the Strategic Planning page of the district's website and on the website calendar.

COVID Considerations Going into the 2022-2023 School Year
The Vermont Agency of Education and Department of Health recently shared updated considerations for schools for the start of the new school year. CVSD has summarized those on this document. We will keep all staff, families, and caregivers informed if there are any changes.
Free Internet Available
CVSD Families and Caregivers: Here's a great opportunity!
If your child participates in the free or reduced-price lunch program at school, then your family is eligible for the new Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)! It's another reason to fill out the Free and Reduced Price School Meals form. https://bit.ly/cvsdFRmeals
Learn more about qualifying for affordable internet service through the ACP at: https://getmyinternet.org/
Let's Talk!
CVSD recently rolled out a new feature on our website in the spring. This is a communication tool for faculty/staff, students, families, and community members.
Let’s Talk! makes it easy for you to engage with school and district leaders on the topics that matter most. Unlike an email, your inquiry is automatically routed to the person or team best suited to respond, ensuring you receive timely and accurate responses every time.
We've just added topics specific to each school. Please use this method to share your questions, feedback, suggestions, and compliments.
We invite folks from all of our communities to share kudos for a teacher, staff member, administrator, or anything or anyone having to do with our schools. These can be shared at any time and will be forwarded to the appropriate recipient. Look for the CVSD Kudos topic! Click HERE to start a conversation.

Youth Happenings at the Carpenter-Carse Library
Weekly Storytime Join the fun and learning on Tuesdays, September 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th at 9:30 AM for picture books, songs, movement, and rhymes that are designed to promote early language, fine motor, and pre-literacy skills in a friendly environment! We will meet every week outdoors on the library lawn or patio, so plan to dress for the weather, and feel free to bring folding chairs or blankets. If the weather is very rainy or cold, we will meet in the library community room. Each week we will finish up Storytime with a simple craft or sensory activity and book browsing. Storytime is designed for babies, toddlers, and preschool/kindergarten aged children and their caregivers, and no registration is required.
This month we are also partnering with Four Winds Nature Institute for a special nature-based storytime on Tuesday, September 20th. We will still plan to meet on the library grounds at our regular time, and two educators from Four Winds will read stories that support nature-based play and lead us in fun activities!
Library StoryWalk StoryWalks are laminated picture book pages posted in order outdoors and across the library grounds. We invite your family to take a short walk around the library as you read a great story and spend time outdoors together. During the Fall, we will post new stories each month (until the snow flies!)
Pajama Storytime Friday, September 9th at 6:15 PM We invite babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and any big kids who still enjoy hearing stories before bed to join us for our first pajama storytime of the year! So get into your jammies and grab a snuggly stuffed friend and head to the library where we’ll share our coziest stories, soothing songs, and bedtime snacks before heading home by 7:00 PM. No registration required.
Beginner Chess Class for Kids Thursdays 5:00-6:00 PM, September 15th - October 20th. If you have ever wanted to learn to play chess, you are in luck! Children in grades 2-8 are invited to sign up for a six week class at the library that will be taught by CVU Chess Club students. We are also collecting a great selection of materials you can check out to help you learn this cool and challenging game. Please email jen@carpentercarse.org or stop by the circulation desk to sign up.
Weekly LEGO Club Wednesdays 2:15-3:30, September 14th -October 19th. We have some new LEGOS this year, and we’re excited to start a new season of weekly LEGO Clubs for children in Kindergarten through 4th grade!
