What's Going On This Week:
- Ms. Harris' Social Studies: This week we will transition to our next Social Studies unit on the colonization of America. This week we will be learn about how France, Spain, and England sent people to the Americas to set up colonies. We will also be reviewing Science during this time by watching a Science Court case on sound. If students completed the extra credit instrument assignment for Science, they will have a chance to present their instruments on Tuesday.
- Mrs. Thurston, Leonard, and Uhlenhakes' Math and ELA: This week in ELA we will start historical fiction book clubs. We will also start our unit on opinion writing. Ms. U's class: Reading Reflections are due Friday. In math we will continue our unit on Fractions. We will continue finding equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Students will take a quiz over those concepts this week. We will then start adding and subtracting fractions. Mrs. Thurston's class will have a timed test on Friday. This will cover facts 3, 4, and 5.
- Ms. Harris' GT Math and ELA: In math this week we will finish our lessons on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions. Students will take their post test on equivalent fractions and comparing fractions on Wednesday. After our assessment, we will start learning about adding fractions and decomposing fractions. In ELA, we will be talking about nonfiction text structure. Since we are missing school this Monday, there will be no Genius Hour this week. We will, however, still have a Socratic Seminar on Wednesday, so please look for those to come home for preparation on Tuesday. New spelling words will also go out this week. My group that was previously on Tuesday will now be on Wednesday. Every other group will stay on their designated days. Finally, the students will start publishing their Snowed In Stories this week.
