The Act of Union

By Sarah

What is it about?

The Act of Union is passed by the British Parliament in July 1840. It united the colonies of Upper Canada and Lower Canada under one government, creating the Province of Canada.

How were people affected? How many people? For how long time?

The British and French were forced to cooperate each other. So many people were affected, included all the people in Canada - French and British. It was more unfair to French because they need to speak English, this lasted for several years.

Did they Cooperate?

The British and French cooperated, but they still have some problems between them. They don't cooperate very well and sometimes argue for their own ideas.
