Winter Health Reminder
A healthy school environment requires the cooperation and effort of all of us working together. During this time of year, we tend to see a higher incidence of strep throat, stomach issues and yes, the flu and flu-like illnesses. Please remember that everyone can help protect themselves and their families from many of these airborne illnesses by following the "Habits For Good Health" recommended by the CDC:
- Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze
- Stay home if you're sick with a fever, diarrhea or flu like symptoms and be 24 hours without a fever and without the aid of fever reducing medicine.
- Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds.
- Try not to touch your mouth, nose or eyes. These are the gateways for viruses and bacteria.
It's Not Too Late!
National Donor Day Is February 14!
Observed every year on February 14th, National Donor Day is an observance dedicated to spreading awareness and education about organ, eye and tissue donation. By educating and sharing the Donate Life message, we can each take small steps every day to help save and heal more lives, and honor the donor’s legacy of generosity and compassion. National Donor Day is a time to focus on all types of donation—organ, eye, tissue, blood, platelets and marrow. Join us by participating in local events, sharing social media messages and encouraging others to register as donors.
National Donor Day is also a day to recognize those who have given and received the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation, are currently waiting for a lifesaving transplant, and those who died waiting because an organ was not donated in time.
Stop by the Donate Life Texas table February 6 at the Eagle Festival, pick up some goodies and register to become an organ donor.
February Is Dental Health Month
Look out 1st graders! There will be a special presentation for you on February 19!
National Children’s Dental Health Month is meant to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Why is this type of celebration—and year-round attention to children’s dental health--important?
Despite the fact that it’s almost entirely preventable, tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children. The good news is there are safe and effective preventive measures that can protect teeth.
New Corona Virus In China
The number of cases of a deadly new coronavirus climbed to close to 1100 in China this week as health authorities in Asia and around the world stepped up screening at airports, railway stations and on highways in an effort to stem the spread of the pneumonia-like disease.
On Monday, the head of a Chinese government expert team said human-to-human transmission of the virus had been confirmed.
The CDC is closely monitoring this situation. Be aware if you are planning travel to China.
