New Year New Message from you YWLA S.E.L. TEAM
Happy New Year Young Women Leadership Family!!
In the year of 2023, you will open the book, its pages will be blank you will put words on them yourself. The 2023 book is called OPPORTUNITY and its first chapter is a New Year..New Day! Take this opportunity to reset and restart yourself for a new beginning.
We have many seniors who are being accepted to college and making plans for their future. Juniors are beginning to have these conversations with family because applications open this summer. Sophomores are realizing high school is getting real and the responsibilities are real. Freshmen are still in shock. Yes, all these classes and tests are preparing you for your career, your future, your amazing life. Our middles schoolers are getting excited and anxious about moving on to the next phase.
We are always here to assist. If the S.E.L. team can do anything to help we will. Do not hesitate to contact us via canvas messenger. Stay up to date on reading canvas announcements for important information to help you achieve your academic and personal goals.

Financial Aid Nights for Seniors
Greetings Class of 2023 Parents!
Beginning in 2021-22, all students enrolled in the 12th grade are required to submit a financial aid application to graduate.
Texas Education Code states that starting with the 2021–22 school year, seniors must take one of the following actions to graduate:
- Complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Complete and submit the Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
- Submit a signed opt-out form to their high school counselor
The Grand Prairie ISD College Readiness Department is here to assist you and your senior through the financial aid application process for both FAFSA and TASFA by hosting three district financial aid nights as well as on-going campus support through the campus’ College & Career Centers. Students and families are welcome to attend any one of the financial aid nights even if it’s not your high school. No pre-registration required.

Start with Hello + Sandy Hook Promise
What is the problem?
- Social isolation is the feeling of being left out, lonely, and treated like you are invisible. At every school and in every community there are children who feel like they have no friends and quietly suffer through each day -- especially at lunchtime and other moments where friends gather together.
- Young people who are isolated can become victims of bullying, violence and/or depression.
- As a result, many further pull away from society, struggle with learning and social development and/or choose to hurt themselves or others.
What is the program?
Start with Hello is designed to help students and school staff members create and sustain an inclusive school culture / community by implementing three simple steps:
- See Someone Alone
- Reach Out + Help
- Start with Hello
Stop It App
Grand Prairie ISD uses STOPit, an online and app-based reporting system, for students and parents to anonymously report concerns about school violence, threats, bullying, and self-injury to school administrators.
STOPit is on every student's iPad from grade 6-12 and can be downloaded to the personal devices of all students (PK–12 grade) and parents. Additionally, any student or parent can make a report through the STOPit website.

Our Mission is to assist our girls with building self -esteem, self- identity, and self-worth while helping them to plan for their academic success and future. This includes implementing SEL lessons, developing groups, and conducting schoolwide activities that will assist in removing barriers that may keep them from developing the skills necessary to lead happy and healthy lives. We will assist these young ladies in becoming college and career ready so that they may attend colleges of their choice and earn advanced degrees so that they may not only become productive citizens, but help to change the world in which we live.
