History has changed on Oct.4 1957, when the Soviets first launched the world’s first satellite, the Sputnik 1. It was about the size of a beach ball and weighed about 180 lbs. It takes about 98 min. to orbit around the Earth on it’s path.

Sputnik 2

Sputnik 2 was the second spacecraft launched in Nov. 3 1957, into earth’s orbit and it was the first biological spacecraft. It would transmit data to Earth every 15 min. each orbit. Laika(a part-samoyed terrior dog) was the first being to travel space in the Sputnik 2, but died because the oxygen broke and she was eventually cooked.
