Reflections, Celebrations and Events
We have seen the extraordinary in the month of October. The Northern California Wildfires left their mark on our County and Valley. The First Responders fought valiantly to save our Valley and County. The number of people affected by the fires is profound. The community rallied together to support one another and provided amazing amounts of donations, food and funds to those in need.
El Verano opened its doors the first couple of days of the fire to provide masks, water, clothing and food. We served 1000 people in two days. The High School housed hundreds of people for several days. This is truly an amazing community!
In regard to our events and celebrations I would like to share the thinking around our decisions. The Jog-a-Thon took place on October 4th. We decided to wait to collect until this week because we recognized families were settling back to routines from being evacuated. The Halloween Carnival was cancelled because our planning time was lost during the school closures and many families lost wages and food. Asking families to pull together the Carnival was to large a thing to ask under the circumstances.
On December 15, we will have our WinterFest Celebration. We will provide dinner at a minimal cost, games and prizes. The ELAC and PTO are collaborating on this event and more information will be available soon. On February 9, 2018 we will hold our first ever Family Dance. This is a free event! Music, dancing and desserts!
We hope these celebrations and events help us heal and come together as a community.
