Dear Parents
For those of you that attended the annual Books vs. Badges game, I hope you enjoyed seeing your teachers battle hard against your police officers! It was a fun game for players and fans alike and an important fundraiser for the Youth Guidance Council, who funds our valuable DARE program.
The PARCC tests for all 3rd, 4th, and 5thgraders are right around the corner. Please know that the teachers have worked very hard and the students are prepared for success on the assessments. More information about the PARCC will be coming home in the coming days.
Every year, Bogert and Reynolds schools host an art show to highlight the wonderful work of our students. This year our art show will be Thursday May 24th from 4:00 - 6:30 and we will be showcasing students’ work at all grade levels. We will also be having refreshments and many art activities in which visitors can participate. Immediately following the art show, there will be a full performance by the 4th and 5th grade orchestras as well. Please join us for this evening full of art and music!
May typically represents a busy month at Bogert. Between field trips, special celebrations, and culminating events, there is a lot to coordinate. Please make sure to review both the calendar and your child’s teacher’s website in order to be full of aware of the events in which your child will participate.
Happy Mother's Day!
Mr. Kaplan
Thank you, Bogert Teachers!
Thank you, Bogert Teachers!
May 7 begins teacher appreciation week. I would like to thank Bogert's teachers (and all staff members, for that matter!) for working so hard for their students. From the well-planned lessons, to after school help, to visiting students at games and plays, to emailing parents late at night, Bogert's teachers do a lot for the school community. Please join me in giving them the recognition they deserve!
Free Little Library
The Junior Girl Scout Troop raised money to fund the project from their annual cookie sales. The library promotes and fosters literacy within the school community. Students always have access to the book exchange program, with the motto of "Take a book and leave a book." The library creates a curiosity when students wonder, "What book will I find next in the library to read?"
The books are stamped with Bogert's address, so they can be returned. There is also a book donation bin located in Bogert's Main Office so families can donate books to the library as well. The girls are very proud of their Bronze Award Project and they hope many students will enjoy the library for many years.
Enriching Opportunities
This year Bogert Enrichment Program has moved into a new and improved larger space! A special thanks to the USR Education Foundation for our new tables and chairs! Our new movable furniture supports the type of collaborative, project-based learning that is happening in Enrichment. Third, Fourth and Fifth graders have been visiting the Enrichment Room during lunch for various Enrichment opportunities, such as Lunchtime Logic, The Amazing Race, and STEM Club. Recently, a group of 5th graders also petitioned for a Chess Club, so we have been able to introduce that as well.
We are also looking forward to our 25th annual Discovery Day! On this day we celebrate students’ discoveries, specifically in the area of science. This year the focus of Discovery Day will be “Going Green.” Our hope is to broaden children’s awareness of a variety of environmental issues. We hope they will continue to understand that the choices they make today to reduce, reuse and recycle will affect our global future. Discovery Day will take place on May 30th. We will have parents, community members and students from Cavallini and Northern Highlands volunteering their time to share different ways to “Go Green.”
