Monroe Schools District Update
Calamity Day Information - February 19, 2021
Dear Monroe Parents/Guardians:
We wanted to take just a moment to provide you with an update on our calamity day situation, remote learning, and the City of Monroe’s salt situation.
At this time, we have used three of our five allotted calamity days. If inclement weather prevents us from being in school, we will use our two remaining calamity days. Once all five calamity days are used, we will move to remote learning for any weather-related closures. With this option to transition to remote learning, the school year will not be extended if we exceed our five calamity days.
The City of Monroe has informed the community and the school district that they have limited salt to treat our roads and residential areas and will not be treated and cleared at the same level as we are accustomed. While our campuses may be ready to receive staff and students safely, our community roadways may not be deemed safe, which will be a significant factor in our consideration to delay or close school. Please know we are staying in communication with the city regularly on this matter.
Let’s hope and keep our fingers crossed that spring is on the way and the bad weather is behind us after this week.
Sincerely,
Kathy Demers
Superintendent
