MSVMA State Solo & Ensemble
Congratulations to the three Fraser High School choir students that participated in the Michigan School Vocal Music Association State Solo and Ensemble Festival on Friday, March 17, at Eastern Michigan University
All events received First Division ratings, equivalent to the overall grade of an “A”. The soloist competed at a proficiency level, which includes performing two solos, one in a foreign language. The first solo is the same as District S&E, but they have to prepare a new piece for State S&E and perform for a judge at sight-reading, singing music they have never seen before. Solos are out of 90 points and Sight-Reading is out of 30 for a total score of 120.
Congratulations to Natalie, Rebecca, and Samantha for their many accomplishments!
First Division Ratings:
Natalie Watson, Senior - Solos: 84; Sight reading: 26 = 110
Rebecca St.Onge, Senior - Solo: 87; Sight reading: 24 = 111
Samantha Walzak - Solos: 90 (perfect score); Sight reading: 18 = 108
MSBOA STATE SOLO & ENSEMBLE RESULTS, MARCH 18, 2023
Congratulations to the Fraser High School band students that participated in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association State Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, March 18, at Chippewa Valley High School. 18 events qualified at the District Solo & Ensemble Festival, with a total of 17 events participating at the State competition.

For the proficiency ratings, a "Superior" First Division is a score of 85 – 100, and an "Excellent" Second Division is a score of 70 – 84.
Included in the State competition were FOUR chamber ensembles, each comprised of 9 – 20 students. Receiving a First Division ratings are the Flute Choir, Brass Ensemble, Saxophone Ensemble, and Percussion Ensemble. Their talent, hard work, and dedication are exemplary!

Class of 2023 Cap and Gown Ordering
Seniors! Ordering a cap and gown is an important part of taking place in the graduation ceremony. The link below is a direct link to the standard cap and gown package. If you would like to order additional senior gear from Josten’s, please feel free to visit their site at Jostens.com for a list of options. Orders for cap and gowns need to be in by February of 2023.
Additionally, students are not allowed to have decorated caps for the graduation ceremony. Some students like to have a decorated cap for the senior walk. Students who like to do this have done one of two things:
- Ordered an extra cap so they could decorate that one
- Decorated a piece of poster board or cardboard and taped it to their cap for the walk and could remove it for the ceremony.
