Waterbury Roar

Volume 1, Issue 16; December 11, 2020

A Roar from our Principal, Dr. Jon Pokora

Hello Waterbury Community!

First, I’d like to thank all of you who are helping your child participate in the daily announcements! I greatly appreciate the support and participation. I experienced a great problem, in that, I had so many pictures and jokes that we have a surplus. Keep the jokes and artwork coming! If I ever miss any, please email me and let me know.

Also, I’d like to thank you all and your children for continuing to do an amazing job during remote learning! I love how many students are being acknowledged through their “paws”-itives and Golden Paws. I’ve read about so many great actions by our students.

Next week is incredibly busy. We have two supply pick-ups. The first is on Monday, December 14th and the second is on Friday, December 18th. Both are 10-5. Please know if either of these times are difficult, feel free to connect with a friend and have them pick up your child’s supplies. The Friday supply pick up is specifically for January 4th and 5th. We will also have a supply pick-up on Tuesday, January 5th for the rest of the week. As for information regarding return to in-person learning, please look for communication from Dr. Castillo.

Related to this, if you’d like to give a Holiday gift to your child’s teacher, please drop off the gift on either supply pick up date next week. We will notify the teachers, so that they may receive this in a timely manner.

Last, we have a virtual all school assembly next week, on Wednesday, December 16th, from 10-11. A zoom link will be sent out by your child’s teacher. Please make sure it is your child’s device that is logging into zoom with their first and last name. Also, we will have a virtual Winter Party on Friday, December 18th. Again, please make sure to look for communication from your child’s teacher.

Thanks and have a great day,

Dr. Jon Pokora

Big picture

COVID-19 cases are increasing in our community

All school nurses have received the following information from the DuPage County Health Department. Please continue to report any Covid related illnesses to your school while we are in our adaptive pause. Thank you!

Lisa Montiel, RN – Waterbury School Nurse

“In order to provide schools with an understanding of COVID-19 activity in your school communities and to inform decision making for schools and public health, each school must report all staff and student cases of COVID-19 to DuPage County Health Department, irrespective of in-person, hybrid, or remote learning/teaching students and staff.”

Please continue to adhere to these guidelines:

★ Stay home when appropriate – experiencing new symptoms (including fever, cough, headache, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, runny nose, fatigue, body aches, loss of taste or small and abdominal pain), exposure to someone who tested positive for COVID-19, or are awaiting COVID-19 test results.

★ Wear a mask and socially distance at all times

★ Practice frequent hand hygiene

★ IT TAKES MULTIPLE LAYERS TO PROTECT AGAINST COVID-19.

I also attached the latest exclusion guide that I am utilizing to make decisions regarding daily attendance in our building. Hopefully, it will offer some insight as to why individuals are asked to stay home for a bit.
