Conversation, Reflection and Prayer on Sunday Following General Conference Vote
As you may know, the delegates to the General Conference, representing United Methodists from across the globe, voted 438 to 384 to maintain the current language in the Book of Discipline banning same-gender weddings and the ordination of LGBTQ persons by passing what is known as “The Traditional Plan.” The plan also “hardens” the consequences for any clergy person who chooses to violate the Book of Discipline. The plan will be submitted to the Judicial Council for a “declaratory decision” regarding the constitutionality of the plan. The Judicial Council will address the question at its next meeting in late April.
But for us, the people of Vista Ridge Methodist Church will continue to be about the work of building life-giving relationships with God, with each other and with our community. We will continue to partner with Rockbrook Elementary, The Salvation Army of Lewisville, CCA Food Pantry, and Vista Ridge Nursing and Arbor House to care for and bring the presence of the body of Christ to our neighbors. We will continue to do good, do no harm and stay in love with God. We will continue to be a community of people who seek to follow Jesus not just on Sunday mornings but on every day of the week.
Even more importantly, we will continue to be a community where ALL are welcome as beloved children of God with gifts and graces to serve the Reign of God.
So we will also care for each other, especially as we wrestle with our feelings in response to the vote. Some of us are angry. Some of us are sad. Some of us are confused. Some of us are hopeful. Some of us are anxious about the future. In response, Pastor Mary Beth will host a time for conversation, reflection and prayer this Sunday at 9:45 a.m. in the Rehearsal Room for those who wish to reflect on the outcome of the 2019 General Conference. You are invited to bring your love and the best of who you are.

Study the Scriptures: Steve Gosling’s New Blog Website
I want to invite you to my new blog website. At this time, the invite is being issued to a select group of people. This is for two reasons. First, I know most of you personally. Second, I am asking you to provide me feedback on the site, separate from your blog replies. How does the site look? Does the site function well? What would you change?
This being my first website, your feedback will be important, especially if some tweaking is needed before this is launched to a greater audience. You can complete the Your Story info sheet to be notified of new blogs as they are posted. I hope you partake of this opportunity. I look forward to your input.

The church is looking for workers on Saturday, April 6, to staff a booth at Lewisville’s ColorPalooza event to invite the community to our Easter services and Vacation Bible Camp. Six people will be needed each hour to hand out flyers, talk to attendees about the church and assist children with a craft. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sign up below.
