Test Day Strategies for Success!
- Go to bed early and try to get a good night sleep TWO nights before the ACT/SAT as well as the night before.
- Wake up early on the day of the test.
- Do some exercises to wake up your body like stretching, yoga, crunches, push-ups, or even a short 10-20 minute walk outside.
- Take a shower and get dress. A lot of students go to test day in sweat pants and comfortable clothes, but you will set yourself up for success mentally, if you get ready like any other day and feel put together.
- Have a good, balanced breakfast (protein and carbs - eggs, sausage, or bacon, oatmeal, toast with PB, greek yogurt, blueberries, and juice). You don't want to get distracted with being "hangry" during your test, and it's fuel for your brain!
- Work on a couple sample problems to wake up your brain!
- Gather all your materials for the test the night before and put them by the door, on the kitchen table, or somewhere that you won't forget! - test administration ticket/registration confirmation, driver's license or ID, at least three #2 pencils, and extra eraser, a watch to help you keep track of time, a light snack, and water.
- Try to arrive about 20 minutes before the start of the test, get checked in, find a good desk that is in a location without potential distractions (away from the windows work best for me).
