Principal's Corner
Hello Meadow Park Families,
Although the weather may lead us to think otherwise, we are through our first week of March. Over the next few weeks, we will begin sending information about our OSAS (formerly SBAC) testing calendar and procedures. We are planning to change our setup from previous years and utilize a special schedule to have the whole school testing at the same time on a given subject.
While our teachers have been working hard to make sure our students are mastering content in their classes all year, there are a couple items we encourage students to do at home throughout the year that will benefit them both in their classes and on any assessment. The first is to encourage your student to read every single day. We have an article below on choice reading and our schoolwide expectations. A second resource available to all Meadow Park students is Dreambox, an adaptive math program that will help improve students math skills and conceptual understanding. For more details on Dreambox, see the article on math practice below.
This week we also had the opportunity to welcome future 5th graders to Meadow Park. If your child and family are enjoying being at The Park, it’s a great time to let your neighbor know. The 5th graders were sent with class selection (forecasting, in eduspeak) forms and may have questions that could be answered by your child or family. We are proud of the work we do with our students each day and looking forward to welcoming a large group of 6th graders for the 2019-2020 school year. As a side note, our forecasting process for future 7th and 8th graders will begin soon. We will be sending information out in the coming weeks.
Make it a great week!

Thank you, Meadow Park Community, for your support as we came together to raise money for the American Heart Association. Our theme this year was "a lot of people making a little difference actually makes a BIG difference!" It was an incredible month and we bonded as a community kicking off our fundraiser in a sea of red, selling Val-O-Grams to send messages of kindness to our friends, playing in or watching our "Hoops for Hearts" staff against students basketball game on Valentine's Day, and last but not least...we rounded up those coins in an effort to meet our fundraising goal of $1,500! The top advisory class in each grade, which won a donut party, for rounding up the most amount of coins, were...
8th Grade - Mr. Edmond's Class
7th Grade - Mr. Slick's Class
6th Grade - Mrs. Christensen's Class

Choice Reading
Math Practice
In addition to reading, we are encouraging all students to engage in math learning, outside of school. This could include math homework assigned by teacher, reviewing math notes by highlighting and reworking problems, practicing explanations, real math opportunities at home and/or working inside Dreambox.
Dreambox is an adaptive math program that adjusts in real-time adapting hints, level of difficulty, pace, and sequence. It is recommended that students complete 5-10 lessons per week outside of their classroom lessons. It is highly engaging while expanding student thinking through math practice in a fun yet applicable way. The individualized approach aids in helping students fill in gaps as well as advance their skills.
We are very excited to have a math program that support students' math learning inside and outside of school!
Dream box is available on the Student Bookmark page on the Beaverton School District Website. If you need support in helping your child access the site, please contact your child's math teacher.
Volunteers Needed in our Meadow Park ART Classes
I'm excited to announce that we are collaborating again with the Meadow Park Marching Band to march our large scale animal masks in the St. John's Parade this spring. Please join us in this fun, family connecting volunteer opportunity! Art students are creating large animal masks this month. We need volunteers to help assemble the framework that will hold the masks. Please send me an email at Lelainya_guzman@beaverton.k12.or.us if you think you might be able to help. The volunteer group will start at the end of March and the first Parade will be May 11th. Thank you so much for considering to generously donate your time. This is an exciting opportunity to support the arts at Meadow Park Middle School.
