Principal’s Message
Monday is Valentine’s Day and while we will not be having classroom parties, we will allow students to exchange valentines with their classmates. No candy, please! Please see your child’s teacher’s communications for more information.
The 5th graders will be hosting a pencil and eraser sale during lunch hours on Monday, February 14 to raise money for the 5th grade year end activities and school's gift. Each pencil or eraser is $0.25. Limit 4 per student! Please send money with your child if you would like them to participate.
February is Heart Health Month as well. Each week, I will post information in this newsletter to help keep your heart healthy!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mrs. Bellini
Reminder: 5Essentials Survey
As part of our commitment to continuous improvement and growth, parents, students, and teachers in our District and across Illinois have been asked to participate in the annual statewide Illinois 5Essentials Survey. As a parent, this opportunity will allow you to share your thoughts on the important elements of school effectiveness in a survey about your child’s school.
Take the 5ESSENTIALS Survey today!
For more information about the Illinois 5Essentials Survey, or to view previous years’ Reports, please visit https://www.5-essentials.org/illinois. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact 5Essentials Client Services at 1-866-440-1874 or 5essentials@uchicago.edu.
Reminder: Social-Emotional Screener
As part of our continued efforts to ensure the whole child is supported, the District will be administering a Universal Social-Emotional Screener to all students during the week of February 14th.
The purpose of this screener is to provide data on where students could benefit from continued or additional support. This screener is not intended to serve as an evaluation of individual students.
For students in grades K through 2, classroom teachers will complete the screener. For students in grade 3 through 5, classroom teachers will complete the screener and students will complete a self-screener.
Pursuant to Board Policy 6:65 this is in support of social-emotional learning standards. And pursuant to Board Policy 7:15, if you would like to opt your student out of the survey, please email me. If you have any additional questions regarding this process, please let me know.
Heart Month
We hope you have been learning a lot about heart health through Finn's Mission in Kids Heart Challenge at our school!
As you know, a couple years ago, Finn suffered a stroke, and it is our mission to ensure that we can help to create a nation of lifesavers- and that includes learning how to spot the signs of a stroke!
Stroke is the nation's #5 leading cause of death, but it doesn't have to be! Check out this song and learn how YOU can spot the signs of a stroke to help save a life!
Don’t forget about completing this very important step on Finn's Mission so your student can earn their badge of honor! Go to your school page and learn the signs and complete the quiz here!
This week we have a fun game for your family to complete at home! Click here for your heart healthy BINGO sheet! Send your completed sheet to Jennifer.Smiley@heart.org by 2/27 to earn a special prize!
Looking for more ways to keep your body active this month? Head to your students KHC page, navigate to “Students” at the top, and there you will find TONS of heart healthy activities you can complete at home!
One more thing… it’s time for a MOVEMENT BREAK! Can you complete this challenge right now?!
