A message from the Assistant Principal-Mr. Lynch
Happy Friday Suffield! As another week comes to a close, I want to take a moment to brag about some of the wonderful things happening here at the school. We celebrated Dr. Seuss’s birthday with an entire week full of dressing up and playing learning games. By Friday, it was not at all unusual to see a teacher with fur ears or a student with a large hat on their head.
We are gearing up for next week, which is National School Breakfast Week! If your child has never tried one of our free breakfast meals, this is the perfect week to get started. Our kitchen staff has prepared fun morning announcements and breakfast foods for all to enjoy. The excitement begins on Monday!
Our students have enjoyed outdoor recess multiple times this week. It is amazing to see the improvement in everyone’s attitude when they are able to go outdoors. I have issued the students a personal challenge to find an extra 30 minutes of time this weekend to get outside and play. I am looking forward to hearing some fun stories on Monday morning.
And so….in the words of Theodor Geisel,
The more that we learn and the more that we grow
Helps us all become better and more in the know
We learn from the North and the South, East, and West
What we’ve learned during this week is that Suffield’s the best!

Principal's Good News Call
5th Grade Camp
Although things with COVID are currently unknown and causing a great deal of issues in society, we are attempting to plan a possible camp experience for our 5th graders. Assuming things lighten up and the cases of COVID are what they were last Spring/Summer, the Fifth-grade students at Brimfield Elementary and Suffield Elementary will have the opportunity to attend camp at Camp Muskingum in Carrollton, Ohio from May 25 – May 27, 2022. The cost of the 2022 outdoor education program is approximately $145 per student. Parents and students should begin planning on this expense at this time.
To reserve your child’s spot at camp, a deposit of $45.00 was due March 1st. Please send it in as soon as possible. Two additional payments of $50.00 are due before April 1st and May 1st. If camp must be canceled due to COVID, any money you have deposited will be returned to you. To attend camp, all fees due to the school must also be paid in full. Contact the secretary if you have questions regarding this.

Counselor's Corner- A Note From Miss Livers
Building confidence in our students is important. Whether your child is full of confidence or seems to be in constant self-doubt, there are things we can be doing every day to help build those feelings of confidence. Here are some ideas for families to incorporate ideas on how to build confidence. One way to help children build confidence is by encouraging them to learn and try new things. Whether it is a new sport or activity, trying something new can help students gain the confidence to continue to grow and adapt to new environments. Although they may struggle at first, once they accomplish their goals, they will feel capable and competent. Similarly, giving your child age-appropriate responsibilities, like taking care of their things, taking care of a pet, etc. can help your child feel like they can contribute to making the world a better place. Like any skill or habit you want your child to pick up on, it’s important to model positive self-esteem. Children are always watching. When you turn your mistakes into opportunities to learn, use positive self-talk, or accomplish new things, your child will feel empowered to do the same.
Also: Careers! I am looking for parents, grandparents, or anyone who is part of the Field family who might be interested in recording themselves answering a few questions about their career, job, occupation, and/or trade school experience! I am hoping to create a library of careers for our students to explore and learn about. If you are interested in participating please email me at Emilee.Livers@fieldlocalschools.org. I look forward to connecting with you!

Birthday Treats-MUST be prepackaged, ONLY
At this time, we will allow Birthday Treats to be brought to school. We are required to inform you of the Healthy Eating Guidelines (see below) and suggest that you use this when selecting a treat. Whatever you choose, please note that all treats brought to school for the purpose of sharing with others, need to be prepackaged so we are able to know and see the ingredients list. There are many students who have a variety of food allergies and having the ingredients listed helps the school nurse determine if a student with allergies can eat a particular treat.

Each class will have an assigned time and will participate in these specials in a rotating sequence. One huge benefit will be that no special will regularly be missed because of school holidays.
