From the Principal's Desk
October 25, 2021
Greetings FWAFA Family,
Hope your week is off to a great start. Just want to give a BIG FWAFA shout-out to our choirs for a lovely performance last Thursday evening. Way to go!
We have lots of new information to share this week. Take a look!
Creatively yours,
Dr. Jackson
FWAFA Thespians Volunteer at the Welman Project
Members of Troupe 6391 FWAFA Thespians spent time volunteering at The Welman Project on Saturday, October 16.
Pictured L-R, Jenevieve Kaplan, Mars Bartell, Suri Lian, Zoe Smith, Skyla Jennings and Supreme Muhammad helped inventory and organize the numerous community donations that are free to teachers‘ classrooms.
Shoutout to these FWAFA Thespians for their community service!
Living a Drug-Free Life - #Goals
Our National Honor Society has hung up a poster in the hallway by Ms. Brown's room for Red Ribbon Week. They would like to encourage all students to write your drug-free goals on the poster. You can also write what you want to be as an adult to encourage living a healthy drug-free life.
If you happen to see The Wicked Witch of the West or Munch's "The Scream" wandering the halls on the last day of the month, you might be alarmed, but don't be surprised... It's really just a student participating in a grand old FWAFA tradition - Literary Character/Famous Artwork day.
Students must have an English, Reading, or Visual Arts teacher sign off on their costume prior to Friday, October 29th. See attached form in Jupiter Ed email.
Costumes must cover everything your uniform does. Please leave the toy weapon accessories at home.
Miss Wiggins can't wait to add some new living characters and works of art to the yearbook!
PTSO APEX Fundraiser Starts Tomorrow!

Then the program wraps up with a celebratory, high energy fitness event: The Apex Fun Run. It’s going to be a TON of FUN!
The funds raised from this event will go towards 💙 10% Teacher Giveback, Student/Teacher Enrichment & Recognition And Other PTSO Expenses 💙.
We’ll share more info about the Apex program and ways to support our school over the next two weeks.
Advanced Placement Test Registration - Due By November 5
AP test registration is now available online for students who are taking Advanced Placement classes. This year, there is no cost to students to take the exam. This is a savings of $96. Please register using the link below no later than Friday, November 5. It is highly encouraged that all students taking an AP class take the corresponding AP test.
If you have questions, talk to your AP teacher.
Returning to In-Person Performances
This year, we are thrilled to be returning to in-person performances! Currently tickets are on sale for As You Like It. You can find all ticketed events on our website at ArtsAcademics.org/Tickets.
We wanted to share some updates about the ticketing process. Moving forward, we will be using Eventbrite as our ticketing platform for all events. For ticketed events, you may have already noticed that a credit card processing fee is included. Like all online processing platforms, Eventbrite charges a fee to process credit cards - regardless of whether you pay online, in advance or in-person.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR YOU?
- If you plan to pay by credit card, please go ahead and purchase tickets now, online. The fee is the same online and at the door. Making your purchase in advance will speed up check-in process and limit congestion at the door.
- We will still accept cash at the door, and we have a new at-the-door ticketing process.
- You will need to present your digital ticket/QR code for entry to each performance.
- Seating is now General Admission for all shows - seats are first come, first serve.

A Day at the Carnival & Fright Night - October 30
On Saturday, October 30, the Junior Class is hosting two events:
A Day at the Carnival from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Fright Night from 8:15 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
A Day at the Carnival: Come and play games, try out the cake walk, and get your candy at the Trunk-or-Treat. Kids can be dropped off (please leave contact information) or accompanied. $15 per child or $25 for two children. Non-participating adults are free.
Hotdogs, nachos, chips, and drinks will be on sale for cash only.
FRIGHT NIGHT: Middle and high school students come watch Coraline (PG13), picnic style, while enjoying snacks & pizza. Bring your blankets, camp chairs, or bean bag chairs. Be careful! The “Things that Go Bump in the Night” may wander out of their restricted area to scare you during the movie. The restricted area will be open for one frightening visit with your movie ticket. If the “Things” haven’t scared you enough, you can purchase another visit (cash only) for another scare… and another… and another…
The events are open to everyone—faculty, staff, and students—at FWAFA and the community around us, so please invite everyone that you know. We hope to see you there!
Buy your tickets at the door or prepay with the link below.

Spelling Bee - Tuesday, November 16
Grade level English teachers will be holding classroom bees some time between now and Friday, November 5th.
Two students from each class period or homeroom will advance to the School Bee on Tuesday, November 16th, which will begin at approximately 8:15 a.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Study materials are posted in JupiterEd.
Log in to your JupiterEd account and select Materials from the drop down menu on the left-hand side of the screen.
Then select School Office from the drop down menu at the top of the screen.
There you will find Spelling Bee 2022 Study Lists 1-3.
Students should study ALL these words if they are hoping to compete in the school bee, since 3rd-8th students compete together at that level.
FWAFA will get to send one elementary student and one middle school student to the Area Bee, which will be held here at FWAFA on Saturday, January 29th.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to the Spelling Bee Coordinator - Leslie Cook. Her email is leslie.cook@fwafa.org.
May the Vowels Be Ever in Your Favor!
7th and 8th Grade Theatre Showcase!
The seventh grade students have been exploring the foundational elements of theatre by exploring non-verbal communication and pantomime. Each student created a story set to music that had to explore a conflict and resolution while maintaining realistic, authentic movements and gestures.
Eighth grade has been learning about film acting, and more specifically, how to communicate a message with clarity, personality, and authenticity. We started by exploring Public Service Announcements in September, selecting theatre superstitions and audience etiquette to showcase the basic elements of a PSA.
We learned about film terminology, how film acting differs from stage acting, how authentic movement and expression influence the audience's connection to the story, and much more! We even watched Michael Caine in his element and learned more about training for a film actor.
Our showcase work explored the basic elements of a commercial, from creating a script and shot list, to defining what kinds of shots (long shots, medium shots, and close-ups), to creating a succinct message with a jingle.
Each commercial and pantomime was filmed using a professional gimbal and then put into a master cut of the showcase.
Some students chose to edit their own videos before Ms. Wilton added a special touch, so please applaud them if they opted to do that! It's not easy!
Each showcase video is less than 20 minutes long.
