Information Regarding the Schedule For Tuesday, October 2nd
· 10th grade students take the PreACT (Freshman and English Halls).
· 12th grade students take the WorkKeys (Math and History Halls).
· 9th and 11th grade students have an *eLearning Day.
*eLearning Day
9th and 11th grade students are NOT required to come to school. They will be given online assignments to be completed at home. If 9th and 11th graders do come to school, they will report to one of the gyms until all testing is completed.
After Testing
Per Mr. Carroll: Once testing is complete, we will return to our normal schedule for ANY student who is at school (9th - 12th). Students who wish to check out after testing should bring a check out note to the attendance office as soon as possible.
Lunch will be served.
Due to Testing on Tuesday, there will be an AP Schedule Change
Monday, October 1 will be an A Day.

Did you know? Buckhorn High is an official Alabama Bicentennial School, thanks to Ms. Brittney Carnell's submission to the Alabama Bicentennial commission.
Only 200 schools across the state earned the distinction of being designated as an official Alabama Bicentennial School!!
The award also came with a $2,000 grant to support the "Living History" project Ms. Carnell submitted. Her project will highlight historically significant places in our community.

The running Bucks had a great day at the Wingfoot Invitational! It was hot and dusty but everyone competed well. Girls Varsity came in 5th in a very tough field. Gracie Carlile, Mackenzie Andrews, and Jeri Abbott all had personal records!

The Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), also known as the PSAT, is a standardized test targeting 10th and 11th graders across the U.S.
The PSAT is heavily connected to the SAT which serves as a qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program for 11th grade students.
Buckhorn only has 100 slots available, so reserve your seat early.
Registration opened on Thursday, September 20th and will close once all slots are filled. Please see Mrs. Gordon in the Guidance Department to register.

T.O.C. ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Every year the Athlete of the Year campaign, powered by Huntsville Hospital Sports Center,
TOC Sports and D1 Sports, looks for high school senior student athletes who excel
on the field, in the classroom and in our community.
From August to April, a panel of judges selects one Athlete of the Week. Applicants must be a high school senior, have a minimum GPA of 3.5 and display a history of athletic and academic accomplishments, as well as community/civic involvement.
At the end of the school year, all weekly winners are invited to a banquet held in their honor.
Two students are selected as Athletes of the Year and will each receive a $1,000 scholarship.

The Buckhorn Mountain Bike Team is recruiting new riders for the 2018-2019 season. Everyone, boys and girls in grades 6-12 are welcome. There are no tryouts and you don’t need experience - we’ll teach you all the skills you need to ride. We teach parent riders too! Our practice season starts October 15th. We train locally, with some out of town practices. Race season begins in late February, with 6 races throughout Alabama. If you don’t want to compete in races, you are welcome to just come out to ride and learn with us. You can sign up at any time or request more information via email at RideBuckhornMTB@gmail.com, or talk to a team member – just look for the Buckhorn MTB shirts around school.

Don't want to take your final exam? Don't miss school! Students are now given the opportunity to exempt their final exam in each of their classes. However, their grades AND their attendance will be the deciding factor. Students should think ahead and plan for the end of the semester - don't miss days you don't have to.
- A student who earns exemption status has the option to take the comprehensive final examination to raise the final grade average for the course.
- The comprehensive final examination grade will count 20% of the student's final grade.
- Absences due to approved school activities will not count against course attendance.

The Round Up Program was started by The Schools Foundation and Huntsville Utilities to support local public school systems. The Schools Foundation is a funding partner of Madison County Schools. The more residential and commercial locations that round up, the more funding we can receive.
