PRINCIPAL'S CORNER
This week teachers started teaching students about being prepared for all types of safety events. We have been practicing and participating in fire safety drills all school year. Spring is a time during the year when we typically learn about and practice tornado safety.
Last month I sent home a letter explaining new safety procedures and practices the school is implementing. We have practiced "lock down" drills for many years. This is where we announce that there is an intruder in the building or that we need to keep the hallways clear so all staff and students are to stay in rooms until an all clear is given.
This year we are moving to a more informed practice where staff is given as much information as possible about the situation in the building so he/she can make an informed decision on how to best keep your child and themselves safe. Learning began this week around being prepared and ready to listen for instructions. Each week in February the staff will have a lesson dealing with safety procedures.
Watch for information coming home at the end of February regarding Parent/Teacher Conference sign up as well as our annual Seroogy's Fundraiser in March.
Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have about your child or school.

Open Enrollment: This year’s Open Enrollment application period will take place between February 4th and April 30th. The Wisconsin Open Enrollment program allows children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. Early and late applications will not be accepted. Parents may apply online at https://dpi.wi.gov/oe If you do not have access to a computer, call or stop in at the district office.
If your child is currently attending under Open Enrollment, it is not necessary to complete an application form; your child will remain an active student through 12th grade.

All Arts Day: On Friday, April 17th, 2020 we will once again be presenting the All Arts Day program where parent and community volunteers share their artistic talents with our students. It is a chance for students to see that art is all around them in a variety of forms. But to make it work, we need your help. Could you teach a small group of students how to take a good photograph? Scrapbook? Tie a fishing lure? Decorate a cake? Dance a polka? Make play-dough? The possibilities are endless, but we need about 25 volunteers to make the day work. Interested in being a presenter? Please contact the office (826-5819) for more information or to volunteer. Thanks.

Child Find Screening
Nurses Notes
The peak of the cold and flu season is upon us. To prevent widespread flu in the school, we recommend that your child stay home from school if experiencing flu or cold symptoms. To decide whether or not to send your child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation if he or she has any of the following symptoms:
• Very stuffy or runny nose and/or cough
• Mild sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
• Headache
• Mild stomach ache
Definitely keep your child at home for treatment and observation if he or she has any of these symptoms:
• Fever (greater than 100 degrees by mouth and your child may return to school only if fever free for 24 hours WITHOUT medication)
• Vomiting (even once in a 24 hour period)
• Diarrhea (even once in a 24 hour period)
• Chills
General malaise or feelings of fatigue, discomfort, weakness or muscle aches
• Frequent congested (wet) or croupy cough
• Lots of nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
To help prevent the flu and other colds, teach your children good hygiene habits:
• Wash hands frequently
• Do not touch eyes, nose or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing or coughing, use a paper tissue, throw it away and then wash hands
• Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
