Tarbiyah Academy Parent Newsletter
Updates, Information, and Reminders for our TA Families
October 14, 2021
Assalamu Alaikum Dear TA Parents and Families!
I hope that this finds all of our families well and in the best of conditions!
As we wrap up our 7th week of instruction here at our school, my heart is grateful for the immense blessings we've experienced and continue to experience each day. Each morning, our students and staff begin the day by reciting Quran, making duaa, and remembering Allah (swt). Together, we reflect on the Learner Profile; this week we've inquired into what it means to be Caring and ways to show Kindness towards others and the planet. Students are sharing their knowledge and research with their fellow students. In classes, students are memorizing Quran as well as reflecting on the ayat they are reading. They are learning stories of the prophets and companions and are building literacy in the Arabic language. Our students are reading and writing on a daily basis, working on specific strategies that will allow them to become stronger, more effective communicators. They are exploring and developing their creativity, conceptual knowledge, skills, and new understandings through the multiple learning engagements they experience throughout the day. The TA team and I are all so proud of how hard our students are working and how quickly they are demonstrating growth as learners. I ask Allah to continue to bless and protect our students, our staff, our school, and our entire community.
As you pray for yourselves, your families, and your children, please remember Tarbiyah Academy in your duaa and pray for our continued success! May Allah help us, protect us, accept from us, and guide us through our challenges and all we do.
Please read ahead for lots of pertinent information at this time for our families. As always, feel free to reach out with any questions.
Thank you and jazakum Allahu khairun.

Lunch, Snack, Water Purchase Concerns & Reminders
We continue to have lunch purchase options available to students Monday-Thursday. Cash will NOT be handled at this time when purchasing lunch. All purchases will be charged to parent TADS accounts.
Please be sure to speak to your child about water, snack, and lunch purchases and ensure that your child knows whether or not they have your permission to make a purchase from the school. Some families have been surprised to find that their child was purchasing snacks or water from the school. We are not able to verify parent permission for student purchases simply due to the high number of students who do make purchases with us, so again, please speak to your child about this. We offer these items here for your convenience only and do not wish for this to become a burden on any family.
**Please note that moving forward, we will charge families on a MONTHLY basis for lunch, snacks, and water. This is to avoid excessive processing fees on TADS.
Zero-Tolerance on Name Calling-Reminder
Some children, out of habit, believe it is harmless to use words and phrases such as "stupid," "dumb," "shut-up," etc. We aim to create a culture of excellence, kindness, and caring here at our school and the presence of this language does not serve our mission or vision here at TA, which includes raising leaders and creating a space that is safe for everyone.
Please have this conversation with your child.
In the event that a child is using this language, he/she will be pulled aside to reflect on the behavior (using the reflection sheet) and to meet with a teacher to discuss the resolution. The reflection sheet will be uploaded to the child's behavior log and parents will be notified. If the behavior persists with an individual child, parents will be called for a meeting to discuss problem resolution strategies and potential repercussions.
Overall, I don't expect this to be a big leap for our student body! Our young learners are especially kind and caring, alhamdullilah; this measure is more so to alleviate some isolated instances we've experienced and to prevent this from becoming a part of our school and student culture moving forward, insha Allah.
Learner Profile Attribute of the Month
Each month, we select one attribute to focus on school-wide. Together, we inquire into what each attribute means and how we can demonstrate more of it in our lives. This month's focus attribute is Caring. Here is how the IB defines Caring:
We show empathy, compassion, and respect. We have a commitment to service, and we act to make a positive difference in the lives of others and in the world around us.
What would you add to this definition? We'd love to hear about how our lifelong learners are inquiring more into what it means to be Caring.
Socktober
Families can continue to bring in items (listed below) through October 29, but furthermore, we would really love for our students to engage in this community action and learn the value of service as part of our Muslim identity! Please support your child in letting their family, relatives, friends, and neighbors know about this effort, and to take the initiative to collect from them.
Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders have designed beautiful drop-off boxes for this effort and our 4th graders have also included heartfelt notes to include with the items. May Allah reward them immensely! Boxes are set up in the front lobby for all collected items.
Family Country of Origin Survey
In an effort to create a welcoming and warm school environment, we would like to better represent and honor our students' ethnic and language backgrounds in our school's physical spaces through environmental print and other such measures. Kindly take the quick survey below, stating your family's country of origin and languages that are spoken in the home. This information will help us tremendously in fostering a holistic environment here at TA.
