Healthy Habits

Dear Prospector Families:

We are working hard towards the end of quarter! Thank you for encouraging and supporting your child towards healthy habits:

  • Get enough sleep- 10-11 hours for 5-10 year-olds (American Academy of Pediatrics).
  • Drink water - 5-7 glasses for 5-12 year-olds. Water is important for brain function and overall health, especially as the weather warms up.
  • Eat well - healthy eating habits will regulate energy and avoid sugar highs and lows. Find out more at: https://www.choosemyplate.gov/children
  • Limit screen time and encourage outdoor time! Healthy and active brains need healthy bodies.
  • Did you know? Boredom is good! It promotes creativity and imagination along with many more needed skills. https://www.theschoolrun.com/benefits-of-boredom-for-kids

Additionally, thank you for reading to your child, with your child, or listening to your child read each night. Reading at grade level by third grade is a graduation success indicator!

Internet Safety

Thank you for discussing internet safety with your child. We have had reports of students being challenged with appropriate social media use, and we have had some students and parents express concern over some trending YouTube videos. We haven't had specific incidents on campus, but it is a good reminder to monitor your child's internet usage and review safety tips. Common Sense Media has good resources and tips for safety.

These sites are not endorsed by the school or district, but are offered as a possible resource.
