Mountain Building
Fold
The rocky mountains are a result of a geological fold. Geological folds are a result of two tectonic plates converging and causing bends or distortions in the Earth's surface. There are three types of folds: monocline, anticline, and syncline.
Block
A fault block occurs when layers of bedrock are broken into blocks and the blocks sinking into the earth. Horst terrain is the higher level and graben in the lower.
Volcanic
A volcanic mountain is formed when a large amount of cinder builds up on the Earth's surface. A cinder volcano will pile up cinder to form a mountain and most others will form from build up lava hardening.
