It Takes More To Be A Bulldog
Hello!
We hope that our newsletter finds you all well. As hard as it is to believe, we are down to the last weeks of school - we made it! This year has certainly presented us with some hurdles and difficulties, but - together - we made it through. Our students continued to learn and know they were cared for. I thank each of you for your partnership and support - this was a true community effort.
We hope that this newsletter helps inform the last few weeks of school.
Be Well!

COVID RESPONSE UPDATE
Below, please find some adjustments and information pertaining to our district's efforts to complete the school year, caring for all within our learning community while still giving our students all of the opportunities possible. Our district has worked with our Department of Health to plan the following responses in order to ensure that all changes meet with their agreement and to ensure everyone's well-being is at the forefront of all protocols.
On Friday, May 28th, it has been shared that the Governor will relax masking protocols within the State. To keep all safe, and to follow as simple a process as possible, the Butler School District will continue our masking policy for all indoor activities: daily classes, indoor ceremonies, etc. For all outdoor ceremonies/events, Butler will not require a mask to be worn as per NJ parameters. If, however, individuals choose to wear their mask, they are welcome to do so. For all events, we will continue to follow the three foot social distancing parameters already in place.
Travel Procedures
As we approach the Memorial Day Weekend, questions surrounding travel have begun to be posed. The following is the Butler School District's policy regarding travel through the end of this school year:
1) No travel quarantine for staff or students who are fully vaccinated or had COVID in last 90 days
2) Travel quarantine for those individuals who are not vaccinated , but we will reduce the quarantine time to 7 days with a negative test and the test must be done between 3 and 5 days of the return or 10 day quarantine if no test taken
BHS Spring Athletics
The NJSIAA has lifted the mask rule and the social distancing rule for outdoor high school athletic events - so no masks will be required and no social distancing requirements will be in place for outdoor sports for anyone - coaches, athletes, spectators, etc.

Memorial Day, May 31, 2021
On this upcoming Memorial Day, the Aaron Decker School community remembers those who serve to protect our country and our freedom. We are forever grateful for the ultimate sacrifice of those who died for the United States of America. May their courage and dedication never be forgotten.
ADS Bulldog of the Month Recipient
Congratulations to Joy Johnson for being our May ADS Bulldog of the Month recipient. Mrs. Johnson will be retiring at the end of this school year. Her service to the entire Butler Public School District and the students she worked with over the years is very much appreciated. We wish her the best of luck in her retirement!!
Richard Butler Middle School
Mrs. Papa comes to Butler with a great deal of administrative experience having spent the past five years serving as an assistant principal at Jefferson Township High School. Prior to this, Mrs. Papa worked as an English Teacher at both the high school and middle school levels.
Mrs. Papa won the Outstanding Potential in Educational Leadership Award from Montclair State University. She comes to us with a wealth of experience in blended and flipped learning, scheduling, and strategic planning. She has led professional development in many areas, including, but not limited to: Peer Observation Processes, Diversity, and varied Instructional Techniques.
As we continue our transition to a true middle school philosophy, including teaming, cycle courses, and, eventually, elective courses, we are excited to welcome Mrs. Papa as an integral part of this next phase.
Please be on the look out for an introduction message from Mrs. Papa in the coming weeks!

(June 14 -18) This will allow teachers to see their students everyday during the final week to finalize grades, collect materials and wish them well. Students will continue to report or log in at 8:00 am each day and dismissal will remain at 12:35 pm.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
During this time, our administrative team and office staff continued to work. Often, these individuals worked six to seven days a week in order to not only plan, but to track the wellness of our students and staff. As such, they were always on call. All worked throughout last summer, the holidays, and, as mentioned, their weekends, with most not missing time or taking time for self-care.
With this in mind, I will be closing the Butler School District for seven days, from June 24th through July 5th. While I acknowledge that this is unusual for us, as we have always worked to ensure that offices had coverage at all times, it is important to me to make sure that these professionals take time to care for themselves, to rest, and to catch their breath prior to coming back in July and begin planning for our return in September.
I am sharing this now in preparation and to give everyone as much notice as possible. If you believe you may need assistance from a particular school, please proactively reach out over the next month.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and support of these wonderful educators and staff members who have worked so hard to help make this past school year successful despite all we have endured.
In Appreciation
Mrs. Joy Johnson
