The Raytown School District in partnership with the University of Central Missouri Mathematics Education Department and the Department of Elementary & Early Childhood Education are excited to offer Raytown educators an opportunity to acquire an Elementary Mathematics Specialist Certificate.
Courses in the EMS certificate program are offered primarily online with some courses requiring a 5-6 face-to-face sessions. The face-to-face sessions for Raytown educators will be held in Raytown for your convenience.
As part of the program, you will learn to coach students as well as fellow teachers in learning math and facilitating math learning. Upon completion of the program, you will be certified as an Elementary Mathematics Specialist in the state of Missouri. Elementary Mathematics Specialists will be prepared to fill a variety of roles: mathematics coach, mathematics resource teacher,mathematics curriculum supervisor, or mathematics teacher in a departmentalized setting.
The certification program is a 24-credit hour program.
- Designed for full time classroom teachers.
- Includes five integrated mathematics content/pedagogy courses and two leadership development courses.
- Delivery includes online blended classes and school based internships.
- Courses are offered over a 2 year cycle.
Completion of the the certification may be used as part of a Master’s degree or Education Specialist degree by completing additional coursework.
The following admission requirements apply to the Certificate in Elementary Math
- Candidates must have a current certification in Elementary and/or Middle School
- in the state of Missouri,
- a 2.5 minimum undergraduate GPA,
- a minimum of one year of classroom teaching experience, and a recent teaching
