February is in full-swing! Scheduling meetings continue with students for next year. We are excited to welcome the Class of 2027 into our building on Monday evening for their high school orientation. Juniors will take the ACT on February 28 (see more information below). There is a lot going on at BWHS. Please continue to read our family newsletter to stay up-to-date and in-the-know!
As always, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teachers, school counselor or the administration if you have any questions or concerns. Feel free to contact the main office at 740-965-3766 between the hours of 7:00 and 3:15.
Considering CCP Courses Next Year?
The 2023-24 College Credit Plus Intent must be completed by April 1 if a student wants to take any CCP class(es) next year. This is a requirement for current and potential CCP students. Each student and one parent/guardian should complete the document in google together. If the family was unable to attend the CCP presentation on Feb 2, please review the CCP documents and slides available under the "Scheduling" tab on the school counseling website.
Students planning to take CCP classes next year AND have completed the 23-24 CCP Intent Document may join Dr. Jordan in the Academic Commons during periods 1,2, 3, 4/5, 7/8, 10, or immediately after school on Tuesday, February 14 to complete college applications or have CCP questions answered. You must bring your social security number to complete college applications. For additional information about College Credit Plus, please click here.

Congrats to BWHS Music Students!
The BWHS Music Department is pleased to share 3 of our music students were accepted by audition to become a member of the "top music group" in the State Of Ohio. These students spent many hours in rehearsals and came together to perform this past weekend at the OMEA Music Educators Conference. Please congratulate Big Walnut's members of the All STATE HONORS ENSEMBLE 2023, Emma Rawls (Choir), Alex Snodgrass (Choir) and Adrianna Nagy (Orchestra).
Congrats to FFA Students!
On January 20, four BWHS students competed in the Ohio Biotechnology Career Development Event. Our team placed first in the state in this event! Individually, Landon Sewell placed 24th, Paris Anderson placed 12th, Jordyn Lokey was 2nd and Maddy Jones was the top individual overall. In the event, students took a written exam, identified scientific/research equipment, and demonstrated laboratory skills. Additionally, as a team, students were given a topic and had one hour to research the issue and develop a plan for a new technology to present to a judge. Congratulations to these students for all their hard work!
Updates from the School Counseling Office
Course Selections for 2023-2024:
Counselors are still working with students one-on-one to schedule for next year. If you have not already met with your counselor, please be sure you are prepared for your meeting with a minimum of 5 courses per semester. Once your student has had their meeting, they (and you) will be able to view next year's course selections in PowerSchool under the "class registration" tab. This is just a listing of courses, not a schedule with assigned periods. If needed, adjustments to this listing can be made in March.
Seniors:
Please take a look at the School Counseling website for information on local scholarships. Deadlines are quickly approaching. Don't miss out! The listing of scholarships is updated weekly!

BWHS Academic Boosters
Academic Boosters - who are we? We are a group of organized parents who provide support to help improve the academic experience for all students, parents, and staff at BWHS. We provide An Evening of Excellence in September to recognize sophomores, juniors, and seniors who earned a 3.5 GPA the previous year. We sponsor the annual Academic and Military Signing in the spring for graduating seniors who have been offered college scholarships and graduating seniors who have enlisted in Military Services. Students who earn a 5 on their AP exam receive a High Five yard sign provided by and delivered to their home by members of the Academic Boosters. Our staff at BWHS is crucial to the success of our students and the academic booster parents show them just how much we appreciate them by providing a few very small tokens of appreciation during staff appreciation week in April. We have many other ideas of ways we can expand and continue to support the academic efforts of our students and staff! We are looking forward to a productive and fun year!
Meetings are typically at 6:30pm on the second Monday of each month. (No December meeting.) This year, our meetings are as follows: 3/13, 4/3, and 5/8.
