Jackson Ignores Supreme Court
Cherokee forced to leave ancestral home
In a stunning show of presidential power, Andrew Jackson refused to halt the forced removal of the Cherokee from their ancestral homes. The Cherokee seemed to have won a resounding victory against the Jackson administration with the Supreme Court's decision in Worcester v. Georgia. However, Jackson outmaneuvered the Cherokee and Chief Justice John Marshall by ignoring the court's decision and continuing with the removal of the Cherokee. In response to the court's ruling, Jackson was quoted as saying: "John Marshall has made his decision, now let him enforce it!"
